Atkins Diet – Dreamy weight loss Diet!

Atkins diet was popularized and promoted by Dr. Robert C Atkins as a low – carbohydrate diet for weight loss. It concentrates on minimizing the carbohydrate content of the meals.

Conventionally, the diet comprises of high protein content, fat and low carbohydrate diet. The low carbohydrate component of the diet initiates and maintains the weight loss. Originally this diet was deemed unhealthy due to the high fat content but the studies have proven that this fat content is seldom converted into the bad cholesterol (LDL) or triglycerides, but rarely to may not work in the favor of some people.

Lately, the diet has been studied thoroughly and shown to lead to more weight loss than low-fat diets, and greater improvements in blood sugar, HDL, triglycerides and other health markers and are also less prone to cardio-vascular diseases.

The diet can be followed in Four Stages: Start inducing the diet with high protein and high fat with low carbohydrate like green leafy veggies. Then balance it by adding meager amounts of nuts and fruits and still keeping the carbohydrate low. Then comes the fine tuning the existing diet-plan, once the desired weight loss goal has been achieved carbohydrates can be added without significant weight gain. Then is the maintenance phase wherein we can add as much carbohydrate as desire without evident weight gain.

Foods that should not be consumed are sugars, canned fruit juices, candies, ice creams, wheat, rice, rye, barley, corn oil, canola oil and soybean oil. Foods allowed in moderation are carrots, bananas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, grapes, oranges and lentils.

All in all, this is an ideal diet plan for those who cannot withstand the sight of boiled foods but yet wish to shed some pounds!
