Paruchuri Praveena produced films like C/O Kancherapalem, Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya. She debuted as a director with Kothapallilo Okappudu. The movie introduced leading actors Manoj Chandra, Monika T, Usha Bonela. Rana Daggubati presented the film under his Spirit Media. As the movie released on 18th July, let's discuss about it in detail.

Plot:

Ramakrishna (Manoj Chandra) runs a stage dancing troupe but he also works with a money lender Appanna (Ravindra Vijay). He collects money from the villagers who owe money for him. Zamindar Reddy (Benerjee) is a staunch enemy of Appanna, due to his character and his community. Ramakrishna loves Reddy's granddaughter Savitri (Monika). To get closer to her, he tries to talk to Adhilakshmi (Usha Bonela) aka Andam. But her looks are quite contrast to her name. So, Ramakrishna feels agitated when villagers connect her with him. Ramakrishna wants Savitri to dance on stage in a nearby village and hence, he is going around Adhilakshmi.

While Adhilakshmi is a good dancer, Savitri takes it as a challenge and learns from him. But she declines to dance on stage and Adhilakshmi asks her to talk to Ramakrishna directly. She accepts at first and then declines, Ramakrishna waits for her. So, Adhilakshmi goes to tell him about it but villagers think they are in relationship and force marriage. Appanna stops it and promises to Ramakrishna that he will marry Savitri, only. But he dies on his way, what happens next? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

The movie tries to blend blind beliefs and belief in God, that too, in villages, satirically. While the idea seems to be good on paper, it doesn't translate to the big screen in an effective way. With an interesting premise like stage dancer falling for zamindar of the village's grand daughter, the film fails to engage audiences in romantic portions. The selection of leading ladies doesn't really suit the story as well.

While it doesn't need stunningly beautiful ladies, it needed to present them even more attractive manner. Even in an artistic or parallel cinema, the need for actresses to have some sort of an attraction works better, especially, for romance at its core. Even the satire doesn't really work as the premise and set-up for the satire haven't been laid effectively.

Writing needed to showcase how blindly villagers tend to believe in either God men or legends about God descending through someone after their death. This kind of premise and romance going hand-in-hand would have worked big time for this film. But the transition into this issue from what presumably looked like a love story just did not sit fit into it. Also, the writing did not really proceed to have any stand-out moments that really hit the satire out of park.

Even the execution looked poor as the camera work using anamorphic lens did not translate the output well to the screen. Everything that could have worked on paper, did not work translate to the screen. Manoj Chandra is good in several scenes but he needs a little bit more training and exposure in monologue delivery. Benerjee and Ravindra Vijay did their best but couldn't really hold it all together in this Sandcastle.

Bottomline:

Movie needed a lot more focus in writing and execution for the premise, hence, ends up being boring one.

Rating: 2/5
