Shocking:74 tigers killed in this year

Madhya Pradesh stood first in a horrific tale of tiger deaths in the country. It has registered 19 deaths so far since January this year. At least 74 tigers died between January 1 and June 26 this year in India. Poaching still seems to be haunting the forest authorities with them failing to save tigers from death. 14 tigers were electrocuted, poisoned or simply killed by poachers.   According to the statistics 12 were victims of infighting, 2 tiger-human conflict, 3 road or train accidents, 1 fights with other animals. The other 26 tigers were "found dead", a category that includes mortality due to disease, old age or unexplained circumstances. Maharashtra and Uttarakhand take the second spot with nine fatalities each. Madhya Pradesh also has the highest number of recorded deaths on account of poaching which accounted to 6 deaths.

    Mud therapy

Is Mud therapy harming the Symbol of Love?

Experts are of the opinion that Taj Mahal is loosing its sheen by the every passing day. And one of the many reasons for it may be the frequent mud therapy being done. The mud pack therapy on the Taj Mahal is being done to fight the problems posed by pollution and insects. The therapy is currently being applied for the third time in the last 14 months on the monument's north wall.   This experts say is taking the colour off the walls of this symbolic monument. A professor at the Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering at IIT-Kanpur, has stated that with regular cleaning, the original colour, texture and shine from the marble surfaces will be gone forever. Contradicting this theory, an official from ASI said that this is the safest and most-used method to clean monuments across the world and also the problem of pollution needs to be tackled by the state government.

    Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod

    Case against fake mountaineering couple

Recently a couple who are constables in the Police department rose to fame for becoming the first couple to reach the Everest summit. But there seems to be twist in the tale. Eight fellow mountaineers from Maharashtra have filed a complaint stating that the couple, who are police constables, was never at the summit and had, in fact, morphed pictures of themselves at the top of the Everest.   Various doubts were raised by the complainants about how Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod managed to get to the peak. One of it is the date and time stamp on the photos. Dinesh Rathod had stated that he reached the Everest summit at 6.25 am on May 23, 2016, but the direction of the shadows indicates that the time the photo was taken was between 11 am and noon, the complaint states. But ironically these are the very photographs that the Nepal Tourism Board 'verified' before awarding the couple their summit certificate. No officials from the Nepal Tourism Board were available for a clarification.

EU may drop English language due to 'Brexit'

European Union may soon drop English language as a result of the Brexit referendum. This is because no state other than the UK has registered it as a primary language among the 28 countries within the European Union. Regulations would have to be changed to retain the language, requiring a unanimous vote from the 27 remaining states.Although English is the most popular foreign language in all but five European countries, French politicians have led calls since the Brexit vote for an end to its dominance. The EU has 24 official languages but for daily business, the European Commission and council of ministers use English, French and German. But German EU commissioner has a different view, he says, "We have a series of member states that speak English, and English is the world language which we all accept".

This comes right after a day when India formally got full membership into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). Into which China hasn't been allowed to enter because of its unimpressive proliferation track record. The editorial also talked about US's support to India's NSG bid, which China was not supportive of. It said, "US backing adds the biggest impetus to India's ambition...The US is not the whole world. Its endorsement does not mean India has won the backing of the world. This basic fact, however, has been ignored by India". It also mentioned that another 10 countries opposed India's NSG bid as India was not a signatory of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
