Hyd: Builder has a fatal fall from terrace

  Prabhakar Reddy, 45, from Chengicherla, a builder, had a fatal fall from the terrace of a six-storied apartment complex at Uppal on Monday. Reddy went to his flat to oversee repair work. He sat on the parapet of the terrace and made phone calls to the mason and plumber. While making the calls, he accidentally slipped and fell off the building.

Osmania Doctor robbed in broad day light

  Thieves in an auto robbed Rs. 20,000 cash from Dr Ali, 54, an Osmania General Hospital orthopaedician while he was walking back from the maternity hospital to OGH. Dr Ali got down from the auto and pulled out a Rs 20,000 note bundle from his pocket to give money to the driver. However, people sitting inside snatched the cash and the driver drove away.

Traffic restrictions in Malakpet for Metro work

  Hyderabad police have imposed traffic restrictions in the surrounding roads of Malakpet for three months from June 7. As per the orders issued by Hyderabad police commissioner M Mahender Reddy, all RTC buses moving from Chaderghat X Roads and MGBS towards Dilsukhanagar will be diverted towards Nimboli Adda, Golnaka new bridge and Moosarambagh. Also, the state run RTC buses heading from Koti towards Malakpet will be diverted at Chaderghat X Roads towards Nimboliadda, Golnaka, Amberpet and Moosarambagh X Roads.

  There seems to be no right way in controlling the pollution in Delhi. According to a new survey because of the amount of air pollution in the National capital, the life expectancy is dropping by 6.4 years. Maharashtra recorded 10% of the country's deaths due to pollution with UP topping at around 15%. West Bengal, 9%, and Bihar, 8%, follow Maharashtra.

No more 30 days return on Flipkart

  E-commerce giant Flipkart has some bad news for its customers. It has revised its return policy , reducing the window when a customer can send back a product bought on its website to 10 days from the previous 30 days on most top-selling products. The 30 day return policy will remain only for clothing, footwear, watches and eyewear, jewellery and fashion accessories, as well as large appliances.

2 pilgrims die due to heart attack at Vaishno Devi

  A woman and a man, died after allegedly suffering a heart attack in Jammu and Kashmir in two separate incidents. Deendayal Gupta, 64-year-old from Delhi, fell unconscious on Sunday near Himkoti and was taken to a nearby dispensary where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Rajeshwari Devi, 65-year-old woman from Uttarakhand, also fell unconscious near the temple and was declared brought dead at the nearby hospital. Both were on their way to the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi.

Swiss to support India's NSG bid

  Switzerland on Monday backed India in its bid to become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group ahead of the elite group’s crucial meeting even as the two countries resolved to strengthen cooperation in combating tax evasion and black money. Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann announced his country’s support to India’s membership in the 48- member group after holding comprehensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Geneva.

District judges to boycott work from June 6

  District judges will boycott work from Monday protesting the allotment of Andhra Pradesh-origin judges to Telangana district courts. A 'Chalo High Court' programme will also be organised on June 13, a press release issued stated after a joint meeting at Hyderabad city civil court on Sunday.

Hearing adjourned in Kingfisher cheque bounce case

  The Hyderabad court which was hearing the petition against liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who was convicted in two cheque bounce cases filed against him by the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, on Monday adjourned the hearing in the case till July 5. The Enforcement Directorate last month obtained a non-bailable warrant against Mallya from a Mumbai court in a money laundering case.

Ramadan moon sighted; Holy month begins

  Central Ruwait Hilal Committee or moon sighting committee comprising eminent religious scholars announced that Ramadan moon was sighted in Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh. Ramadan moon has been sighted in various parts of India including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jhakrkhand. The committee announced that Tuesday will be first 'roza' or fast. The Telangana government has issued an order permitting Muslim employees to leave offices daily at 4 p.m, an hour before the scheduled time, during Ramadan.

  Suresh Prabhu, the railways minister, a day after getting elected to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh has given some news to look forward to for the people of Andhra and it has been making a lot of buzz online. The railways minister promised to introduce a new Bengaluru-Amaravati high-speed express train. Besides, another high-speed train would be introduced on the Kolkata-Chennai route linking Amaravati. He also thanked AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu for helping him make it through in RS polls.

Media banned in Amritsar Golden Temple

Media has been banned in the most holy place for Sikhs in an unprecedented move. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to ban the entry of the media in the 'parikarma' (walkway) of the Golden Temple ahead of the 32nd anniversary of Operation Bluestar. In 2014, the anniversary had seen a medieval-type sword fight between radical Sikh groups and the Task Force or the internal security of SGPC at the Golden Temple.

UP Govt ignored 40 intelligence reports

  It has come to light that the Uttar Pradesh government disregarded 40 intelligence reports indicating presence of a large number of licensed and unlicensed firearms inside the premises and did not provide adequate reinforcements sought by the district administration. The reports, sent to the administration in the past few months, confirmed that the activists of Swadheen Bharat Subhash Sena were heavily armed. Clips of short films shot from mobile phones, which showed SBSS activists undergoing combat and arms training were also shared with the officials.

Mumbai-Pune Expressway Accident:17 Dead

17 people were killed, including a six-month-old baby and over 40 injured early Sunday morning after a bus reportedly hit two cars and fell into a 20-feet deep ditch on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The accident took place at around 5.30 am. A Swift had stopped on the side of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway as the driver was changing a punctured tyre. An Innova car had stopped in the first lane to help the driver.  A luxury bus, coming from Satara, crashed into the Innova and the Desire and fell into a 20-feet deep ditch on the left of the Expressway.

Volkswagen to recall 1.9 Lakh Indian cars

Volkswagen on Saturday said it will recall 1.90 lakh cars sold in the country starting next month to fix the emission software. "Starting from the second half of 2016, Volkswagen will recall 1.90 lakh cars and continue till ten months," Volkswagen India head of marketing Kamal Basu told in a statement. Starting from July, communication would be sent to the customers regarding this and also to make them understand that the recall was purely voluntary in nature, Basu added.  

French Open: Serena losses in final

Top seed Serena Williams was defeated by Garbine Muguruza. Garbine's score read 7-5, 6-4 to clinch her maiden French Open title. With this, she became the first Spanish player since Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario to win at Roland Garros. Twelve years younger than the American at 22, and playing in the first claycourt final of her career, the Venezuelan-born Spaniard made an upset.

Kerala Industry and Sports Minister EP Jayarajan in his obituary reference on late boxing legend Muhammed Ali made a bizarre remark. He then made a complete mess by saying that, "Ali was an eminent sports personality of Kerala and is one who has won a gold medal thereby raising Kerala's position in the world." As he was going ahead, the TV news anchor acted swiftly to save the minister further embarrassment and cut the audio.

Hema Malini gets targeted on Twitter

  The actress, who came under criticism for tweeting pictures of her upcoming movie when Mathura was hit by one of the worst violence, had yesterday defended herself saying that she was unaware of the happenings as she was busy in her shooting. Hema Malini, 67, deleted the photos and then left Mumbai for Mathura, but seemed undisturbed by accusations of both insensitivity and deep negligence of her constituency in its hour of need. "What do I have to do (with it)," she said. "Our people are there, Akhilesh Yadav's government has to handle this," she said.
