    Federer out of French Open

      After playing in 65 consecutive Grand Slams Roger Federer is set to miss his first major grand slam. Federer, 34, confirmed the news that he would miss his first major since the 1999 US Open on his official Facebook page. He wrote:   "I regret to announce that I have made the decision not to play in this year's French Open. I have been making steady progress with my overall fitness, but I am still not 100% and feel I might be taking an unnecessary risk by playing in this event before I am really ready."

    Mamata registers landslide victory

      Unaffected by the various controversies surrounding her Mamata Banerjee has registered a landslide victory in the West Bengal elections. Despite the Saradha chit fund scam and the Narada sting operation, the TMC easily surpassed the 2011 tally of 184 sets sending out a clear signal that there is no opposition in the state.   At a press conference after winning, Mamata said, "In spite of all anti incumbency factors, we have made it in the elections. We thank the common people of Bengal for standing in queue for long hours and voting for us. It's a victory of the common man. The way opposition on has tried to conspire against us is not good for politics and public life."

    Tim cook, the CEO of Apple, today said that, "Apple is focused on making the best products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in Hyderabad which will focus on Maps development. The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations." Telangana Chief Minister KCR said,"We are honoured Apple chose Hyderabad as a home for its Maps development office. This will create thousands of jobs here and is a testament to our proactive approach, quality infrastructure and the excellent talent base we have in the region.”

    Jaya rewrites history in TN

    Jayalalitha of AIADMK has rewritten history today by retaining power for a second consecutive term in Tamil Nadu. This is the first time since 1989 that one party has retained power in Tamil Nadu. The 68-year-old AIADMK supremo though faced the charges of corruption cemented her place as chief minister. Though the exit polls showed that she would be losing this election she proved all her critics wrong by winning it with a majority. Speaking after the victory she said, "My party and I are indebted to the people of TN for giving us this historic victory. I have no interest in life than working for the people of Tamil Nadu."

    Virat celebrates his century with Anushka!

    Cricket lovers across the country were rejoicing and celebrating Virat Kohli's superb century last night in the IPL.     Assam, Northeast's first BJP win

      BJP registered a historic win in Assam today, making it the first state in Northeast to have them in power. The party, which fought the Assam Assembly Elections in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland Peoples Front, created history by winning the mandate to form its first government in the Northeastern state by decimating Congress. This signals the end of three-time, Congress chief minister Tarun Gogoi's political career. The 82-year-old was the chief minister of the state since 2001. Union minister and Chief Minister candidate Sarbananda Sonowal won from Majuli.

    Egyptian plane with 66 people crashes

      An EgyptAir flight which was flying from Paris to Cairo with 66 passengers and crew on board crashed in the Mediterranean Sea off the Greek island of Crete, Egyptian and Greek officials said.   The officials are yet to ascertain the reason behind the crash. The search for the debris is on. EgyptAir Flight 804 was lost from radar at around 2:45am local time when it was flying at 37,000 feet, according to the airline. It said the Airbus A320 vanished 16 kilometers after it entered Egyptian airspace, around 280 kilometers off Egypt's coastline north of the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria.

        Harvard Business School's campuses were evacuated following a bomb threat, both Boston and Harvard University police are searching the buildings, said Brian Kenny, a spokesman for Harvard Business School.Harvard authorities also tweeted an alert :   "Alert: Police are evacuating multiple buildings on @HarvardHBS campus due to a received bomb threat."

      In a shocking revelation the Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Justice H L Dattu has revealed that 49 children were using just a single toothbrush and a toothpaste in a government aided home for the disabled.   The former Chief Justice of India, HL Dattu is trying to create better opportunities for people since he has taken up the role as the NHRC Chairperson. He has appointed reporters across states to visit homes for the senior citizens and disabled children and give reports on the basic facilities available there so that they can work better on improving them.

      Apple's chief executive officer Tim Cook kick started his first ever visit to India with a visit to the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in central Mumbai today. Tim is here on a five-day business visit to the country. Cook was accompanied by Sanjay Kaul, the head of country operations for the tech giant, which witnessed its first quarter of dip in sales of its flagship iPhone. Also spotted along with him was Anant Ambani, the son of RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani.

      Bengaluru-based Namotel is marketing Namotel Acche Din at a stunning price of Rs 99. Said to be the world's cheapest phone, it has been launched at a press conference by the company's promoter Madhav Reddy. He said that the smartphone is available for pre-booking from May 17 to May 25 on the company's website namotel.com.   Namotel Acche Din has a 4-inch display with 480x800 pixels WVGA resolution. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and packs 1GB RAM. There's 4GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. There's a 2MP camera at the back and a VGA selfie camera for those who plan on using this thing for taking photos. Connectivity options include 3G and dual-SIM. The smartphone is available on cash-on-delivery basis.

    Nokia Phones Announces a Comeback

      Iconic brand Nokia has announced that they are planning to get back to mobile phone and tablet markets. Nokia Technologies will grant a newly founded company HMD global Oy (HMD), which is based in Finland with an exclusive global license, excluding Japan, to create Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets for the next ten years. Under the agreement, Nokia Technologies will receive royalty payments from HMD for sales of Nokia-branded mobile product.

    Rs 5,367 Cr; Biggest ever banking loss

      Public sector bank Punjab National Bank on Wednesday reported the biggest quarterly loss in Indian bank history. It reported a net loss of Rs 5 ,367.14 Cr for the fourth quarter ended March 31. This was on account of higher provisioning for bad loans.

      A two year old German shepherd has done something that even human being some times back out to do. The pet dog braved snakebites to save the life of a 7-year-old girl in the US. In this process it damaged its kidneys, following which a huge some of US $33,000 have poured in as donations for his treatment.   The dog was playing with Molly DeLuca on Wednesday when the rattlesnake showed up in their backyard in Florida following which Haus jumped between the girl and the snake and was bitten thrice while saving the girl.

    Aam Aadmi Party's leader and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal today made public the draft Bill seeking full Statehood for Delhi. They have put the bill online for public consultation exercise by inviting people of Delhi to give their opinion on the constitutional status of the national capital.   While addressing a press conference Kejriwal said, "Delhi Govt has made a draft bill seeking full statehood status. We have uploaded the draft bill on our website, also welcome suggestions till June 30."

    12yr boy passes 12th class exam

      Child prodigy Aabhas Sharma, has cleared the higher secondary exam conducted by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) at the age of 12. Aabhas scored 325 out of 600 marks, 65% to get a first division in the class 12th exam, making his parents and teachers proud. Two years ago, he became a celebrity in town when he passed class 10 at the age of 10.

    Hillary manages to wins Kentucky

      Democrat candidates Hillary Clinton narrowly defeated Bernie Sanders in Kentucky, a state where she was not expected to win. Sanders went ahead of her in Oregon, a state that played to his strengths. Both picked up primary wins in yet another demonstration of how divided the party is in the national race to win the nomination for November's general election.

      The US Senate has passed a bill that would allow families of victims of 9/11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia. With this development Saudi Arabia has reportedly threatened to withdraw its USD 750 billion worth of investments in America if it became law. This, even as the White House said President Barack Obama would veto the legislation. But the bill is yet to be passed by the House of Representatives before it Obama gets to see it and sign.

    5 states get heavy rainfall

    The Meteorological Department has said a depression in the Bay of Bengal, which has brought heavy rain to parts ofTamil Nadu and Puducherry is presently moving in a north-northeast direction and is likely to intensify through out today. Assam too has been recovering from heavy rain. Kerala has also seen heavy rain over the past two days, with more rain predicted in the coming days. There has been flooding in some parts of the state and emergency meetings have been called by the administration. West Bengal too has been bracing itself, with the storm predicted to move northwards.
