Maoist Leader Kobad Gandhy: SC Suspends His Bail

Maoist leader Kobad Gandhy's bail has been suspended by the Supreme Court of India on Friday. Kobad Gandhy was accused of being involved in the August 15, 2005 bomb attack that killed the then assembly deputy speaker Narsi Reddy and 10 others. A bench of Justice BS Chauhan and Justice KS Radhakrishnan also issued notice to Kobad Ghandy alias Aravindhu alias Kamal on a petition by the Andhra Pradesh government that challenged the August 10, 2011 high court order granting him bail. The supreme court's stay came after the Andhra Pradesh government furnished evidence against him and his alleged involvement in 20 other cases. The apex court, during the last hearing (January 4) of the Andhra government's petition challenging the grant of bail to Ghandy by the high court, had asked the state government to furnish the evidence against Maoist leader. During the hearing, the apex court had told senior counsel Mahavir Singh, appearing for the state government, that high court has said that there was no evidence against him. While granting bail, the Andhra High Court noted that there was a lack of evidence and Ghandy had already been in custody for two years. However, in practical terms, the suspension of the high court order does not materially change the situation as Ghandy is already in jail in connection with his involvement in 20 other cases. Narsi Reddy and ten others were killed in a bomb attack in Mahaboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on the Independence Day in 2005. The Andhra Pradesh government had contended that Ghandy had confessed to his role in a confessional statement made after his arrest in Delhi in 2009.

Renuka Banks on TJAC For Rajya Sabha Seat

Former Congress MP from Khammam and now AICC spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury has proved that she was right when she said a year and half ago that "Telangana agitation is nothing but a handiwork of some politically unemployed people." The same 'T-card', she now chose to play to become a Rajya Sabha member from the state. In her quest for a Rajya Sabha nomination, the 'strong' lady is rallying together all the forces from the region. As part of ground work in attaining her objective, she got JAC leaders like K Swamy Goud, V Srinivas Goud and Devi Prasad to meet AICC incharge of AP affairs, Ghulam Nabi Azad, for a breakfast meeting at her Banjara Hills Road No 12 residence last week. According to sources, the Telangana employees' leaders assured her of their support, provided she can get the government to address three issues that are concerning the Telangana state government employees: Payment of the 42-day salary which they lost because of the Sakala Janula Samma (general strike), withdrawal of all cases against the employees and an assurance that the provisions of GO 610 will be implemented. According to sources, by the time the TJAC leaders arrived, other Telangana-neutral leaders like deputy chief minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, ministers D Nagender, Mukesh Goud and Congress MLA from Sangareddy T Jayaprakash Reddy were already there at the breakfast meeting. The sources said that by the time Azad left, Renuka had given him the impression that she has the T leaders on her side. "From the Congress point of view, she will be a good choice as a leader for the party from the Telangana region. She is not rabid publicly for Telangana like K Keshava Rao. In fact, she has assured Azad that she will work to be a counter to TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao," said AICC sources. Reliable sources inform that, in the present circumstances, many MPs and MLAs are said to be backing her. "The fact that Azad agreed to have a breakfast meeting at her residence in which many of us were present is testimony that the Congress is looking to rehabilitate her. Unlike many other Congress leaders, she fought the Lok Sabha election from Khammam and lost. She is the Congress spokesperson and close to 10 Janpath. So what is wrong if she wants a Rajya Sabha nomination. Azad has already assured her of it, provided she does her ground work. That is what she is doing now," said a close aide of Renuka.

World's Oldest Running Car Fetches $4.62M

Oldest Running Car Fetches $4.62M at RM Auction in Hershey, Pennsylvania, October 10 2011 at 10:05am. This is the oldest motor vehicle car in the world that still runs. It was built one year before Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler invented the internal combustion engine.   The world's oldest running motor vehicle has been sold at auction for an astonishing $4.62 million (R36.5-million), more than double the pre-sale estimate, as two bidders chased the price up in a three-minute bidding war.   The 1884 De Dion Bouton et Trepardoux Dos-a-Dos Steam Runabout drew a standing ovation as it was driven up onto the stage at Friday's RM Auction in Hershey, Pennsylvania - to prove that this 127-year-old car really does run! - and attracted a starting bid of $500 000, which was immediately doubled to $1 million. Encouraged by the applauding crowd, the bidding went swiftly up to $4.2 million (R33 million) - 4.62 million (R36.5 million) including the 10 percent commission - before the car was knocked down to a unnamed buyer.   The Dos-a-Dos (Back-to-Back) Steam Runabout was built in 1884 by George Bouton and Charles-Armand Trepardoux for French entrepreneur Count de Dion, who named it 'La Marquise' after his mother.   In 1887, with De Dion at the tiller, it won the world's first ever motor race (it was the only entrant to make the start line!) covering the 32km from the Pont de Neuilly in Paris to Versailles and back in one hour and 14 minutes (an average of 25.9km/h) and, according to contemporary reports, hitting a breathtaking 60km/h on the straights!   La Marquise has only four owners, remaining in one family for 81 years, and has been restored twice, once by the Doriol family and again by British collector Tom Moore in the early 1990's.  Since then, it has taken part in fourLondon-to-Brighton runs and collected a double gold at the 1997 Pebble Beach d'Elegance in California.

The incident happened shortly before 8 am when Mane suddenly climbed into a Pune-Satara-Pune bus at the Swargate ST Depot and zoomed off, driving at a high speed on the wrong side of the road, taking the oncoming vehicles and people unawares.
