According to locals, elderly people and beggars became victims of the severe cold wave. The temperature in most of the 23 districts in the state is three to nine degrees below normal, the weather officials said. At least 13 districts are reeling under severe cold as the mercury fell to below 10 degrees Celsius. The intensity of the cold has surprised all. The southern state, known for its tropical weather, never heard of deaths due to cold wave. The night temperature at Lambasinghi, a tribal hamlet in Visakhapatnam district, fell below zero degree Celsius Monday but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) did not confirm this as it has no recording station there. Some forest habitations in the district have virtually turned into Kashmir. The mercury in Chintapalli tribal belt of Visakhapatnam is hovering between one and 1.5 degree Celsius for the last four days. People in Adilabad district of Telangana shivered as the night temperature fell to below five degrees. The district bordering Maharashtra recorded a temperature of 4.2 degrees, the lowest in over 100 years. The coastal district of Srikakulam recorded nine degrees, the lowest in decades. The coastal city of Visakhapatnam also registered 11.2 degrees, the lowest in 50 years. Hyderabad has also been recording temperatures between 10 and 11 degrees for the last couple of days. Baba Ramdev Alleges Congress' Involvement in Ink Attack

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Sunday accused the Congress of conspiring against him to derail his fight against black money and corruption. During an interview with a news channel, Ramdev alleged that the Congress was behind the Saturday attack on him. Speaking to the media, Baba Ramdev said "The attacker, Kamran Siddiqui, can be seen in a picture with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The Congress has to justify that. Secondly, Law Minister Salman Khurshid went for Siddiqui's book release... It has come to light that the Congress government even paid Rs.20 lakh to his NGO. This is a serious matter. I am not making accusations. But whatever is wrong has to be condemned." Ramdev pointed out that a senior Congress leader had reacted to the attack on him by saying, "Jo jaise karega, wo waise bharega (As you sow, so shall you reap)". "This is proof enough that the Congress is encouraging such attacks on me," he said.   Referring to the notices from the Enforcement Directorate and Income-Tax department regarding foreign exchange violations, he said: "All the agencies are under their influence... It has been more than six months, but have they been able to find even one rupee of the illegal money?" Accusing the Congress of misusing power, Ramdev backed Anna Hazare's call for a strong Lokpal. "An independent Lokpal should be appointed to eliminate corruption and the CBI's investigative wing should be under its purview," he said. He also denied having differences with Hazare. "I was always with him and will remain so to fight against corruption and black money," he said.

ap cabinet reshuffle

AP CM Kiran Kumar Reddy Plans For Cabinet Reshuffle

A mini-cabinet reshuffle in Andhra Pradesh is on the cards for quite sometime now. The reshuffle is necessiated for two reasons - one reason is that two PRP MLAs from Chiranjeevi group are to be accommodated in the Cabinet and the second one is, Kiran Kumar Reddy feels, since he has completed one year as CM, he should be allowed to have a team of his own. Cabinet reshuffle is a routine exercise done in all states and the Center from time to time. But this one in Andhra Pradesh has become a complicated issue. Kiran Kumar is facing two problems in carrying on with the reshuffle. One of the two legislators picked up by Chiranjeevi for cabinet berths, C Ramachandraiah is a Member of the Lesigislative Council (MLC). Moreover, his candidature is strongly opposed by the senior Congress leaders of Kadapa district for various reasons, includind the allegation that he is a Jagan man.   Even Kiran Kumar Reddy is himself said to be against accommodating C Ramachandraiah in his cabinet. His ground for opposaing Ramacahandraiah is, if an MLC is taken into the cabinet, it will lead to considerable heartburn among several senior Congress members of the Upper House, including D Srinivas, Singam Basavapunnaiah, Paladugu Venkata Rao and Chengal Venkata Rayudu, who have not been considered for ministerial posts due to policy of not accommodating MLCs. Lucklily there's no resistance for the other PRP candidate Anakapalle MLA Ghanta Srinivasa Rao and he can find a place in the Cabinet. According to sources, CM Kiran Kumar Reddy also wants to have a free hand in the reshuffle, for he wants to replace some of the ministers who has been lately causing embarrassment to him. Even if the party high command may not entertain his request to sack housing minister Botcha Satyanarayana, he wants P Shankar Rao (Textiles) and DL Ravindra Reddy (Medical and Health), Kasu Krishna Reddy (Cooperation) and Thota Narasimham (Stamps and Registration) to be dropped. Sources said if DL is allowed to be dropped, the chief minister wants C Adinarayana Reddy (Jammalamadugu, Kadapa) be roped in. Similarly, if Shankar Rao is asked to leave, Kiran Reddy wants the party high command to examine the names of either G Kuthuhalamma (Gangadhar Nellore, Chittoor) or G Prasada Kumar (Vikarabad) or Kondru Murali Mohan (Rajam, Srikakulam) for replacement since all of them belong to Scheduled Castes. Kiran Kumar is seeking replacement of Ramreddy Ventaka Reddy (Horticulture) with his brother Ramreddy Damodar Reddy (Suryapet, Nalgonda).

lepakshi knowledge hub ananthapur

New Hitech Electronic City Coming up in AP

A new Hitech Electronic City is on the anvil in Andhra Pradesh. It is to be located in the premises of Lepakshi Knowledge Hub (LKH) in Ananthapur. According to its managing director S Balaji, the project will come up in about 2,650 acre within the 10,000 acre of the LKH. The project will be taken up in a joint venture with the Vittal Innovation City (VIC) and Global Emerging Markets (GEM). The Lepakshi Electronic Hub, which will put India along the select countries that have global hi-tech innovation ecosystems, is expected to attract investments of more than Rs 11,000 crore and create employment for 75,000 in five to ten years. GEM, a $3.4 billion alternative investment group headquartered in Geneva, will bring in the investments for the project while VIC, led by N Vittal, former secretary, union electronics and telecommunications ministry, has prepared the concept master plan and will develop the project along with the LKH.   When completed, LKH will make it the largest multi industry cluster system in the country. In the next years, it is expected to bring in investments to the tune of $4 billion and create employment opportunities to 1.5 lakh people directly and to another 3,00,000 indirectly. The concept proposes a green ecosystem that includes knowledge-based services, manufacturing, research and development and incubation activities inspired by technology hubs like the Silicon Valley in the US, Hsinchu in Taiwan and Tsukuba in Japan. "The Hi-tech Electronic City project will provide an opportunity for India to leapfrog in electronics and IT hardware manufacturing on the lines similar as IT sector," said Balaji adding that this would be positioned into a special category for electronics. "Various clusters are in different stages of progress and will be ready in five to ten years as projected," he said. This would be in line with the focus of the Government of India to create electronics clusters in India for national competitiveness in this area. Apart from the Electronic City, LKH will house several industry clusters that include aerospace and defence, education and innovation, agribusiness, healthcare, science and technology, media and entertainment and logistics.

Sankranti Brings Chandrababu Naidu, NTR Kin Together

This year's Sankranti festival is going to be a special one for Chandrababu Naidu and late NTR's kin. In a new bonding between Nara and NTR families, the first statue of N.T. Rama Rao will be unveiled by the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, in his native Naravaripalle in Chittoor district on Friday. Interestingly, NTR's statue will come up in Naidu's birth place 16 years after the death of NTR. Mr Naidu and his actor brother-in-law N. Balakrishna, Mr Naidu's brother Nara Ramamurthy Naidu, his sisters and other close relatives will join the family union for Sankranti at Naravaripalle on Friday and Saturday.   Actor Balakrishna's elder daughter Brahmani married Mr Naidu's son Nara Lokesh strengthening the bond between the families. Mr Naidu's nephew Girish is overseeing the arrangements at the native village. "It's a family get together. No politics is involved," Mr Girish says. It is said that Mr Ramamurthy Naidu, brother of Mr Naidu, is eyeing the Chandragiri Assembly seat on a TD ticket for himself or his son Girish. Mr Naidu will unveil NTR statue and a mineral water plant sponsored by the NTR Trust. Sources in the TD said Mr Naidu whose coup against NTR created a rupture in the family and led to acrimonious fights for long, has bonded after the marriage of Lokesh with Brahmani, eldest daughter of Balakrishna. There was also a criticism that Mr Naidu ignored NTR in his own village and was trying to have his own legacy. "We have made all arrangements for our party chief’s visit. A darshan is planned at Tirumala before his return to Hyderabad," Mr Mahadeva Naidu, president, Chittoor TD said.

Partnership Summit: Big Boost to Andhra Pradesh

The Partnership Summit organized by the government after a gap of nine years on Thursday at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) has proved to be a big boost for Andhra Pradesh, which has been reeling under political uncertainity for the past two years. The government on the very first day of the summit signed six major MoUs worth 1 lakh crore with GMR, GAIL, the BR Shetty Group and Yash Birla Group. The amount of investment is set to increase with many more to be signed on the remaining two days of the Summit.     After nine years, the government managed to successfully organise the Partnership Summit in the state and the mood at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on Thursday was that things were looking up after two dismal years marred with political instability. With the Summit cancelled in the last two years due to turmoil over Telangana, this is the first time that the Congress government managed to hold a Partnership Summit; the last one was during Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu's regime in 2003 when it had been a yearly affair (from 2001 to 2003). The general consensus on Day 1 seemed to be that if the government’s aim had been to restore the confidence of investors and entrepreneurs by conducting the Partnership Summit, then it had succeeded. "The issue is not about the investment proposals that came or the total amount of investment promised at the Summit. Hosting the Summit successfully after a gap of nine years itself is a big achievement in the backdrop of political disturbances and agitations in the state during the last two years," said Mr Yash Birla, chairman of Yash Birla Group, which has inked MoUs to invest nearly 5,000 crore in the state. Mr A. Shekar Agarwal, managing director of a textile firm from Gujarat, added, "The success of the Partnership Summit has boosted the image of Andhra Pradesh."
