Police Raids Playing Cards Club in Hyderabad

On protests from MBT leader and Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan at Saidabad police station, the police raided a playing cards club in Champapet area of Hyderabad. The protestors led by the corporator complained that illegal gambling activity was going on at Champapet Club in the name and style of Friendship Club. Hundreds of people, particularly muslims from old city, were indulging in playing cards for high stakes and losing heavy amounts. Whereas the Police in Old City closes the Shops & Business establishments before 10:00 PM but this Illegal Gambling Club is run till late Night up to 3:00 AM.
When the police finally agreed to take action and reached Friends Club, nearly 500 persons were found playing cards. But the police couldn't make any arrests as club advocates preseent at the site showed high court's permission to run the club. Theadvocates contended that nothing illegal was going on in the club and they have the permission for playing 13-card game (Rummy, as it is called). However, the MBT protestors demanded for immediate closure of the so called gambling den.
