CBI Discovers Benami Mines of Gali Janardhan Reddy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the illegal mining activities of Obulapuram Mining Company belonging to former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. CBI officials say that mining officials had violated norms while leasing out two other mines apart from Anthar-gangammakonda (AGK) to Obulapuram Mining Company. CBI officials probing into the illegal iron ore mining case say that officials had violated norms while leasing out two other mines apart from Anthar-gangammakonda (AGK) to Obulapuram Mining Company. CBI sources said that they have collected evidence which proved that OMC had been preferred over other applicants while granting leases in areas measuring 39.5 hectare and 25.98 hectare. A total of six mining leases were granted in D. Hirelal in Obulapuram in Anantapur of which three were given to OMC. "There were violations in granting other leases too. Some of the applicants were coerced by the OMC to withdraw their applications and court cases," said an official. It has been found that mining baron and prime accused in the case, Gali Janardhan Reddy, had floated fictitious companies that had applied for the leases. "In one case, Janardhan Reddy's father-in-law Parameswara Reddy had applied. During verification, we found that some of the applicants did not exist," added an official. The laptop of Mr Janardhan Reddy's former PA, K. Mehfuz Ali Khan, who is still on the run, revealed vital links. The laptop, which had been seized by the IT department, had information stating that iron ore from Karwar and other areas in Karnataka were exported through the OMC's account. The CBI is also collecting evidence regarding former mines director V.D. Rajagopal's association with Janardhan Reddy and his associates.

indian national congress president

Rahul May Soon be Appointed Congress Working President

According to highly placed sources, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi may soon be appointed as working president of the party to help his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi. The stage is being set by the Congress Party for the transition process, say the sources. The sources also inform that the delegation of responsibilities to Rahul Gandhi is just only a matter of time, as it has been already decided in principle. "But knowing the style of Soniaji (Sonia Gandhi) and Rahulji, I feel all the dates and time frames circulated are still speculative. It can happen soon, but how soon is anybody's guess," a senior Congress leader told. Sonia, who had returned three month ago from the US after surgery for an undisclosed illness, but which was widely rumoured to be cancer, is said to be keen to delegate some of her administrative charges to Rahul, leaving herself free to look after policy matters alone. Rahul, 41, currently is a general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of youth and student wings and a second-term Lok Sabha member from the family bastion Amethi. Another party leader said the decision on the timing of Rahul's assumption will be taken in the family, basically between Sonia and Rahul and may be in consultation with Rahul's sister Priyanka Vadra. Several Congress leaders, led by general secretary Digvijay Singh had been hailing Rahul as the future prime minister, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has mentioned Rahul as a future leader. The concept of working presidents in the party is not new. Arjun Singh was working president at the time of Rajiv Gandhi and Kamalapati Tripathi was the party's first working president during the last years of Indira Gandhi. Now it seems just a matter of time that we will have an youthful leader at the helm of India's oldest party.

Will UPA Hike Fuel Price Again?

As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returned from the G20 summit amid the petrol price hike storm, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee hoped to settle things down. He said that he will brief the Prime Minister about the current situation and hopes to sort out differences with Trinamool Congress Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The UPA government came under attack from Mamata on Friday over Thursday's hike in petrol prices. Mamata said that the TMC wasn't informed or consulted about the petrol price rise. Mamata virtually threatened to pull out from the UPA government.   She said that the Trinamool was never consulted before Thursday's price hike. "If fuel price hike is linked to global crude prices then why doesn't the price come down when crude prices are low," she questioned. Adding that the UPA never pays heed to the Trinamool's views, Mamata said, "The Congress party is dependent on allies support whereas the Trinamool has absolute majority in Bengal." She, however, said that though she is angry, she is not blackmailing the UPA over petrol price rise. She said that she will will meet the Prime Minister after he returns from Cannes, most likely on November 8 or November 9. Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien said that the ministers have given in their resignation letters over petrol price hike and that is lying with Mamata Banerjee. However, the Prime Minister remained firm on the fuel price hike and favoured more deregulation of prices. Speaking at the G20 summit in Cannes, Manmohan Singh made it clear that that the government should move more and more in the direction of deregulation of fuel prices. He also said that he has no hesitation in saying that markets must find their own levels. The Prime Minister, though, conceded that food inflation is a problem but said it's also a sign of growing prosperity.

satyam ramalinga raju bail

Satyam Raju Granted Bail by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court granted bail to former Satyam CEO B Ramalinga Raju and two others on Friday. Raju has been in jail for two years and eight months. He was arrested in connection with the multi-crore accounting fraud involving Satyam Computers. The CBI on Thursday moved an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing bail pleas of Ramalinga Raju and his brother Rama Raju, key accused in the Rs 14,000 crore Satyam scam case, and said it was certain that once out of jail they would tamper with evidence and delay trial. But the supreme court bench consisting of Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Dipak Misra said from the facts of the case and considering the totality of the circumstances, it was appropriate to grant them bail. The Supreme Court had on October 26 last year cancelled the bail granted to Ramalinga Raju and others. However, it had given liberty to the accused to move for fresh bail after July 31 this year if the trial did not get completed. CBI said the delaying tactics by the accused and the Telangana agitation had led to the trial getting delayed beyond the July 31 deadline. The supreme court had on October 12 granted bail to five other accused in the case. The former Satyam employees, who were granted bail, are its former Internal Chief Auditor V S Prabhakar Gupta besides executives G Ramakrishna, D Venkatpathi Raju and Ch Srisailam. The fifth accused, who got the bail, is the former auditor of Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) Subramani Gopalakrishnan.

EMAAR Properties Case: Dubai Prasad Arrested

The CBI, which is probing the Emaar-APIIC township scam, has arrested industrialist Koneru Rajendra Prasad (popularly known as Dubai Prasad) on Thursday. With this, Prasad's relationship with the who's who in Andhra Pradesh, including former chief ministers N. Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner. Koneru Rajendra Prasad, the founder chairman and chief mentor of Trimex Group and promoter of Stylish Homes Real Estate Limited was arrested on charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, forgery and falsification of accounts. Popular as 'Dubai Prasad' for his immense clout in Dubai and other emirates, he allegedly sold plots developed by Emaar-MGF in the township for Rs.25,000 to Rs.50,000 per square yard while showing only Rs. 5,000 in official records. CBI officials said this caused huge losses to Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), which had 26 percent equity in the joint venture with Emaar. The Dubai-based Emaar Properties and its Indian associates are alleged to have diluted the equity of APIIC without the latter's knowledge. It was during the tenure of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu as the chief minister, Prasad started calling the shots. It was during his rule that Prasad was acting as representative of Emaar Properties, which bagged the prestigious project to build international convention centre near Hitec City, the IT district in Hyderabad. Prasad also used his clout with Naidu to get 535 acre of prime land at Gachibowli for Emaar Properties to build township-cum-golf course project in 2002. His clout in the business and political circles only increased when he became the business ambassador of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), one of the seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As the director of RAK Investment Authority and with his proximity to the state chief minister, he became the marketing agent for Emaar Hills Township Project (EHTP) to sell the posh villas and apartments in the township built by Emaar-MGF in the township at Gachibowli. He sold the villas to top businessmen, politicians and film personalities. The businessman's meteoric rise continued when the late Rajasekhara Reddy, known as YSR, became chief minister in 2004. Prasad was reportedly shown many favours by YSR and his close aides. In 2007, the state government entered into an agreement with RAK for $2 billion alumina refinery and smelter project in Visakhapatnam district. The government allotted 350 acres land for the mega project. Prasad also managed to get the contract for RAK for building Economic City at Sultanpur on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The government in 2008 allotted 576 acres of land for the project. It was claimed that the project will bring Rs.20,000 crore investment and provide 100,000 jobs. Prasad along with his two sons floated a special purpose vehicle Hyderabad Economic City Developers Private Limited to build the project.     Video Source: snehatv.com

Are T-activists More Dangerous Than Maoists?

Going by the beefing up of VIPs security in the recent times, one would wonder has the Telangana tangle turned security agencies paranoid. For the first time, the chief minister was provided with a bullet proof (BP) podium to address the gathering at the AP Formation Day celebrations on Tuesday. No other chief minister had got such a tight security, even when threat perception from Maoists was high. Sources said though there was no immediate input on increased threat either from terrorists or Maoists, the move appears to be part of the "precautions" against pro-Telangana activists. It is reliably learnt that the reason for the move was due to certain inputs which suggested that certain underground cadres of the Maoists may mix with pro-Telangana activists and attempt to disrupt the proceedings. Senior officers have often insisted that several UG cadres have got 'mixed up' with Telangana activists, especially after the movement took a violent turn earlier. The decision to have a bullet-proof podium was taken on a very short notice, government sources told. According to sources, three bullet-proof glasses was bought from a manufacturer in New Delhi while the entire podium was assembled in the city within two days. The podium had a multi-hit glass (it can protect from a burst of fire) and cost about 1.65 lakh. It protects a VVIP from bullets fired from an AK-47, SLR and 7.62 weapons. Officials were also of the view that the additional security for Kiran Kumar was "essential" as there are around 20 high rise buildings in the vicinity of the NTR stadium, the venue for State Formation Day celebrations on 1 Novemer, 2011.

Speaker, Minister Differences Come to Fore

Normally it is thought that the Speaker of an Assembly is devoid from outside controversies, as his domain of administration gets limited to the assembly alone. But in case of Nadendla Manohar, the Speaker of AP Assembly, it is said that he is still active in his native district governance. Differences between the Speaker and excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana pertaining to Tenali sub-collector Balaji Digambara Manjale have come to the fore recently. The sub-collector Manjale, who was handpicked by Manohar, alleged that a minister from the district is spearheading a campaign to malign his image after he refused to oblige him. Sources said the minister was upset with the sub-collector ever since the latter turned down his request for taking back two fair-price shop dealers, who were suspended on the charges of malpractice. The suspended ration shop dealers later started circulating pamphlets, making serious allegations against the sub-collector that he was demanding bribes from them. Reacting to the pamphlet and some unnamed letters sent to the CM and others, the sub-collector said that he was being targeted for adhering to rules. "The minister asked me to reinstate the two fair-price dealers, after they were suspended on corruption charges," Manjale told. Manjale, a 2009 batch IAS officer, is considered close to Manohar. Though it is an open secret that Manohar and Mopidevi do not get along well, their differences hit a new low when Manohar succeeded in getting Mopidevi's favourite official, revenue divisional officer Shaik Ismail out of Tenali 45 days ago. Manohar took the chance immediately after becoming the speaker and saw to it that Ismail was sent packing from his headquarters, much to the chagrin of Mopidevi. Sources said the minister had decided to take the issue to the notice of CM Kiran Kumar Reddy and seek the official's transfer.   Video Source: snehatv.com
