Sushma Swaraj's Sudden Love For Telangana

The leader of Opposition in the Parliament, BJP's Smt. Sushma Swaraj has developed a sudden love for Telangana protagonists. She also has secured a place in the hearts of Telangana people by raising her voice in the House demanding that the UPA government place a bill for carving a separate T-state. Of course, she didn't do this while her party was in ruling at the Centre.
The latest buzz in the political circles is that the BJP is seriously contemplating to field Sushma Swaraj from one of the Parliamentary segments in north Telangana in the 2014 general elections. BJP sources said though the central leadership has not taken any decision in this regard, senior state leaders of the party have sent feelers to the party top brass. "If the proposal gets the leadership nod, BJP's strong woman could contest either from Nizamabad or Karimnagar LS seats in 2014," sources said.
According to party sources, the main reason for choosing these two segments for Sushma Swaraj was the prevalence of strong Telangana sentiment and lack of strong contenders from Congress, Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Rashtra Samithi. "In fact, the state leadership organized Advani's public meeting in the heart of Nizamabad to send a strong message to the cadres that the party is here to stay," sources said. Also, the BJP is on the upswing ever since the party candidate Yendala Laxminarayana won the Nizamabad assembly seat twice by defeating former Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas.
It can't be said at this juncture whether Sushma Swaraj will be willing to contest from a seat where she might face the risk of losing, considering that she is one of the likely prime ministerial candidates for the 2014 elections.
