Maoist Kishenji Encounter

Maoist Kishenji Was Killed In Fake Encounter

Maoist Kishenji Encounter: The Maoists today demanded an independent probe into the circumstances leading to the death of their top leader Kishenji in West Midnapore district. Alleging that Kishenji was killed in a fake encounter at Burisole jungle, the Maoists have called for a two-day bandh in West Bengal from November 26. “Kishenji was killed in a fake encounter. To protest this we are calling a two-day statewide bandh from November 26 and a week-long protest,” Maoist state committee member and spokesperson Akash told PTI on phone from an undisclosed location. Asked what made him allege that Kishenji was killed in a fake encounter, Akash said, “He was arrested when our people were present nearby and then murdered in cold blood. We demand an independent investigation into the killing of our leader”. Telugu poet Varvara Rao said, “The story of an encounter is a fabrication. Mamata Banerjee proved to be deceptive, speaking of peace with the Maoists while carrying on joint force operations.” Rao said he was flying down to Kolkata from Hyderabad with Kishenji’s niece to identify the body.  Human rights activist and the head of government-appointed interlocutors, Sujato Bhadra also demanded an inquiry into Kishenji’s killing. In Delhi,  CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta  questioned the manner in which Maoist leader Kishanji was killed and asked government to clarify whether he was done to death in “cold blood” after being arrested. In a letter to Home Minister P Chidambaram, he claimed, “The story of the encounter appears to be fake, needs to be inquired into and the government must clarify”.  58-year-old Molajula Koteswar Rao, better known as Kishanji, was killed yesterday in a gunbattle with security forces in a forest in West Midnapore district of West Bengal, a day after he narrowly escaped from there, according to the police. Dasgupta, who spoke to Chidambaram on phone, quoted a “source” to say that Kishanji was arrested at noon yesterday and “subsequently killed in a cold-blooded murder”. “If my information is right, then it is an act of dastardly crime in violation of all national as well as international laws,” he said in the letter.  The CPI leader also demanded that government should make arrangements for the travel of Kishanji’s relatives to Midnapore to identify the body and attend the funeral.

 TDP No-Trust Motion

Jagan Group MLAs to Support No-Trust Motion

Despite some MLAs, including trusted leaders of the YSR Congress Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would support the no-confidence motion against the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh if it moved "with sincerity" by the main opposition Telugu Desam, the YSR Congress said here tonight. of the 28 MLAs who had resigned in August to protest the reported inclusion of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's name in the FIR in a case involving Jagan, 22 attended the marathon meeting today, said Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, a Congress Lok Sabha member who is with YSR Congress. Jagan himself was not present as he was on his odarupu yatra in Guntur district. The meeting assumed significance, after the Telugu Desam said it would move a no-confidence motion against the Congress government in the winter session of the Assembly. Rajamohan Reddy said six MLAs could not attend the meeting, due to various reasons. Most of the MLAs originally belonged to the Congress. However, two Congress MLAs, Jayasudha and N Sesha Reddy, who were with Jagan, have since decided to stay with the parent party, the Congress. Asked to elaborate on the remark that the TDP should be 'sincere', Reddy said the main opposition party should ensure that all its MLAs attend the session and voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.     When asked if Jagan-loyalist MLAs may not be sincere in their opposition to the government as many of them have been participating in official programmes, he said he could not talk about the qualities of individuals.Significantly, Reddy added that "the MLAs have left it to the Speaker to take a decision" on the resignations submitted by them earlier. When told that several Jagan-loyalist Congress MLAs had indicated the intention to continue in Congress till the 2014 assembly elections, he said they had no option, if the resignations were not accepted by the Speaker.    Saying that YSR Congress did not have the strength to topple the government, he said the onus to do so was on TDP. The Speaker had recently accepted the resignations of Nagam Janardhan Reddy, a rebel TDP MLA who resigned in support of a separate Telangana state, and N Prasanna Kumar Reddy, also a TDP rebel, who switched loyalties to Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. The resignations of about 80 others, who quit in support of a separate Telangana state and to join Jagan Reddy, are pending with the Speaker.

pranab Mukherjee Telangana Congress MPs

Pranab Mukherjee Fires on Telangana Congress MPs

Telangana Congress MPs got a dressing down from Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee for disrupting the proceedings of the Lok Sabha on Telangana issue. The ruling Congress which was being buffeted by the Opposition on rising prices could not take the belligerent attitude of the Congress MPs and wanted them to behave themselves. Pranab Mukherjee, who summoned them to his chambers after the session was adjourned for the day, pulled them up asking why they were causing embarrassment to the Congress and that if they continued to behave the same way, he may have to suspend them. The MPs, according to sources, tried to tell the Union minister that unless the Centre takes a decision in favour of Telangana state, it would be difficult for them to move in their constituencies and at least in the interest of the party, a decision has to be taken at the earliest. Pranab reportedly told them that as the party leadership is seized of the issue, they should be patient and not talk about it. The party would take a decision at an appropriate time, he said.   Later speaking to newsmen, the MPs denied Pranab taking them to task.Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said:"If Pranab Mukherjee raised the pitch of his voice against us, we too did the same thing and made our point clear that Telangana should be delivered at any cost. He wanted us to stop our protests forthwith. But we told him in the same breath that we would not stop our agitation. We told him that every morning we will decide what should be the form of protest for the day and then implement it in the House."Prabhakar said the MPs had once again brought it to the notice of the Union minister how badly people of Telangana region were looking for a separate state and that any delay would cause irreparable damage to the party.Manda Jagannadham said they had already forewarned the Congress that they would stall the proceedings of the House. "What we want is that the party should keep its December 2009 promise of delivering a separate state," he said.

TD, Cong Gearing up For Kovur Bypoll

The Kovur assembly seat in Nellore district fell vacant with the Speaker Nadendla Manohar accepting the resignation of Kovur MLA Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy, recently. Though, no notification for the by election has been announced yet, it is understood that both the Congress and TDP will try their best to wrest the Kovur seat. While the Telugu Desam launched a drive to protect its cadre from poaching by Mr Prasannakumar Reddy, the ruling party is all set to make use of the ongoing Rachchabanda programmes in the Kovur segment as platforms to launch their election campaign. Sources in Congress said that the Rachchabanda programmes have been arranged at Buchireddypalem, Yellayapalem, Kodavalur and Vidvalur mandals on November 25 and 26 at the instance of minister for finance, Mr Anam Ramanarayana Reddy. The minister, who has already started attacking YSR Congress in the Rach-chabanda programmes held earlier this month. The minister is certain to add more fire to his speeches against the YSRC and TD to derive advantage. In case of the TD, the party high command has asked party district chief and former minister, Mr Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, to enter the fray, since Mr Prasannakumar Reddy is a formidable candidate at Kovur where he won three elections in the past. Although Mr Chandramohan Reddy is not interested to contest, he was forced to agree since there is no other strong candidate. Incidentally, Prasannakumar is a close relative of Mr Somireddy. Prasannakumar’s father and former minister, the late Nallapareddy Srinivasulu Reddy is not only Mr Chandramohan Reddy’s maternal uncle, but also his mentor in politics. In fact, Mr Srinivasulu Reddy had promoted Mr Chandramohan as his political heir against the wishes of his family members. Hostility continued between Prasanna and Somireddy as the latter climbed the political ladder with ease and established himself as a leader. The TD is bent upon defeating Mr Prasannakumar not only because he switched loyalties, but also for his verbal attacks against TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu. In the case of the YSRC, party leaders have already announced that Mr Prasannakumar is their candidate for Kovur and he has also started meeting party cadre in the segment. The Congress party has not decided anyone for the seat yet. Former legislator, Mr Polamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy, and a Congress leader as well as CEO of a popular medical college, Mr Vemireddy Pattabhirami Reddy, have been vying for the seat. Sources in the Congress said that Mr Polamreddy has the backing of former CM, Mr N. Janardhan Reddy, and Mr Pattabhirami Reddy is being encouraged by the Anam brothers. The name of Mr Sumanth Reddy of Vidvalur mandal is also doing rounds and he is said to be a partner in a business of the CM’s brother. Even as parties are assessing their positions, YSRC leader, Mr Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, alleged on Tuesday that the Congress and TD had entered into a secret pact to ensure the defeat of Mr Prasannakumar.
