Bihar Govt challenges Shahbuddin’s bail in SC

The Bihar government on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of RJD strongman Mohammed Shahbuddin’s bail. Shahabuddin, a former lawmaker of Lalu Yadav's RJD or Rashtriya Janata Dal, walked out of jail last weekend after 11 years. He faces 40 criminal cases including murder, kidnapping and extortion. The 49-year-old was jailed in 2005 when Nitish Kumar first came to power, ending the RJD and Lalu Yadav's 15-year rule. An embarrassed JD(U) leadership was forced to clarify that RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav do not share Shahabuddin’s view on Nitish. Party sources said that the chief minister has also expressed displease at Shahabuddin’s comments. The Siwan native, Chandrakeshwar Prasad, has alleged that three of his sons were murdered by the criminal convict. Chandrakeshwar's lawyer Prashant Bhushan told the Supreme Court that that the Patna High Court made a mistake releasing Shahabuddin from jail. Bhushan said that a free and fair trial wouldn't be possible with the history-sheeter, that is, Shahabuddin, out on bail. "Witnesses won't depose against Shahabuddin out of fear," Bhushan told the Supreme Court. "I didn't ask for 'chanda' (donation) as Shahabuddin is saying, I'm asking for government help," Chandrakeshwar said. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had yesterday demanded the immediate arrest of Shahabuddin and accused the former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) parliamentarian of being the main conspirator in the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.

After 5hr surgery Kejriwal not talk for few days

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday underwent a five-hour throat surgery in Bengaluru, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government said. “The surgery corrected an anatomical abnormality of his oral-pharyngeal and palatal area, which was causing small amounts of saliva to trickle into his air passages whenever his regular breathing was affected by allergy or other factors,” said a statement issued by the Narayana Health City (NHC), where the AAP chief was treated. Kejriwal's chronic cough+ has been the result of a series of anatomical abnormalities that included an enlarged tongue+ and a soft palate, along with other problems in the structure and positioning in his mouth and throat area. He was operated on Tuesday for persistent cough which has troubled him for over 40 years. "There was a restricted space for the movement of his tongue and an enlarged soft palate and uvula in relation to a slight increase in the volume of the tongue that caused kinematic problems in the function. The surgery involved correction of a significant septal spur and palato-pharyngeal (small muscle at the roof of the mouth) correction. There was repositioning of the tongue-base relationship along with the reorganisation of the chin area. The aim of the correction was functional restoration rather than that of a disease," it said. He has been advised not to talk for a couple of days and based on his recovery, further decisions will be taken.
