All you should know about the National Herald Case

The supreme court has made it clear today that Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi should face the trial proceedings in the National Herald case. But what is this National Herald Case anyway! - The National Herald case was filed by the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2012 against six members. - Apart from Sonia and Rahul... Congress treasurer Motilal Vora, general secretary Oscar Fernandes, journalist Suman Dubey and technology advisor Sam Pitroda were also named in the case. - These people have formed a company called `Young Indian’ through which they have acquired the `Associated Journals Limited’. - Associated Journals Limited (AJL) was a public company formed by congress leaders way back in 1937 to spread the views of their party through various publications. - AJL used to publish the National Herald newspaper in English, Qaumi Awaz in Urdu and Navjeevan in Hindi. - Due to several losses and lack of impact on the public, these news papers were closed down by the year 2008. - It’s interesting that the assets of AJL by today’s value would stand around 5,000 crores... And these assets were transferred to the Young Indian company for just 50 lakhs! - Further, a debt of 90 crores provided by the Congress party to AJL has also been transferred to Young Indian company at 0 percent interest. - The Gandhi's have been claiming that everything has gone fair in the acquisition that they have made. But the facts seem to speak otherwise!

Zuckerberg upset over those tweets

The tweets of Andreessen suggesting that India would be better under the British rule has certainly created a few ripples. Andreessen was reacting to the Indian government’s decision to implement net neutrality. It’s a known fact that Facebook is firmly against net neutrality and was trying to implement a program called `Free Basics’ under which, some websites like Facebook would be available for free. Free Basics was often seen as a ploy by the Facebook to gain control over the internet world. Though Andreessen has deleted the tweet and apologized for the act, the screen shot has certainly created waves across the social media. People were certainly seem to be offended by the colonial remarks that Andreessen has made. The CEO of Facebook Zukerberg himself has to step into the field for the damage control-  “I want to respond to Marc Andreessen's comments about India yesterday. I found the comments deeply upsetting, and they do not represent the way Facebook or I think at all. India has been personally important to me and Facebook. Early on in my thinking about our mission, I traveled to India and was inspired by the humanity, spirit and values of the people,” said Zuckerberg in a post. He further stated that “I've been inspired by how much progress India has made in building a strong nation and the largest democracy in the world, and I look forward to strengthening my connection to the country.” Well, if he certainly wish to strengthen his connections, he should probably advise his investors to be careful while they tweet about India!
