Is today the last day for the unified Telugu Pride? With the T Bill being thrashed out at the Parliament today and the uncertainty that looms over whether Andhra Pradesh splits into two, it leaves one with a sense of gloom as to how are we going to cope with this Partition of the 21st century.

At this juncture we should look at the historic win of the late legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr N.T Rama Rao in 1983 with his Telugu Desam party – based on the Telugu Sentiment. Within 9 months of establishing the Party and with the support of the Telugu people he was voted to power and put the face of Andhra Pradesh on the Indian Political map. Who can ever forget his historic ride to the LB Stadium in Hyderabad in the 1980’s, after being insulted during the Indira Gandhi’s regime. Wearing Khakis, sans makeup  on an open top jeep where he gathered followers on the way and mind you this was all off the cuff – no stage management, no paying people to come and attend the event, it was just his fans, followers  & admirers who came running after him that day. Some of them joining him  and the party out of sheer loyalty  and of course the pride of being a Telugu. That was the charisma of the first Non-Congress chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.


We should also acknowledge his son-in-law Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu in putting AP on  the Global map as one of the best states to invest in the IT front . But now we need to see how the country and the world are viewing our state after the session.Now this is not about showing any allegiance to one  party or person, just an observation of the state of affairs of both sides of our leaders who are caught up in this T trauma.


What is it that is being depicted in the Parliament today where our Telugu leaders are battling for both the separation and unity of the state and trying to grab eyeballs with their antics , certainly puts to shame the Telugu Pride which was so carefully  cultivated and made the state of Andhra Pradesh what it is.


Hope we don’t get to see an exodus of people moving from one state to another like we saw during the India – Pakistan partition in 1947!
