As predicted, Supreme Court has turned down Telangana government’s plea for extending time to conduct engineering admissions. The apex court orders AP and Telangana governments to complete the counseling process before end of August month and begin classes from September 1st week. The court suggested Telangana government not to divide the students on regional basis and also warns that it will not allow governments to divide the students on nativity base. The division bench comprising Justice NA Babde and NJ Mukopadyay said every student should have equal opportunity for pursuing higher education irrespective of their region.

The court also made it clear that admission process should be made as per the existing laws and Presidential orders. Responding to Telangana government’s council Harish Salwe’s arguments of reimbursing fees only to Telangana students, the bench suggested that fees reimbursement matter can be sorted out in a later period. Telangana government, which is averse to join the admission process by AP higher education council, has agreed after the apex court rejects its plea for extension. Hence, the engineering counseling in AP and Telangana states will be held as per the schedule announced.
