The tragic incident that takes lives of 36 innocent pilgrims at Allahabad Railway station during the Maha Kumbhmela on Sunday, leads to a furious political battle between the ruling Samajwadi party of UP, Congress and BJP. Instead of taking corrective measures further, Akhilesh government has blamed the Railway ministry that is linked to Central government for its lapses in providing sufficient foot-over bridges at Allahabad railway station to meet the mad rush. BJP has blamed Akhilesh government and the UPA for not making elaborate arrangement that could prevent this tragedy.

Congress party blames Samajwadi party for politicizing the issue. Congress party official spokes person Manish Tiwari has condemned the reports of collapse of the foot-over bridge at Allahabad Railway station. He said whoever died in the accident were found fall down from the bridge as the retaining wall of the bridge was collapsed due to excess load, but not because the entire bridge was collapsed as reported by the media. He said the bridge is still in perfect condition and can stand to load test at any given time. He asked the Samajwadi party leaders to refrain from blaming the Congress party, where as it should take the responsibility for the tragedy.

Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal also condemned the reports about bridge collapse. He said his ministry takes every precaution to ensure security to the passengers. He ordered for an inquiry of the accident.

The first victim of this political blame game Mohammad Azam Khan, In-charge of Kumbh Mela and minister in Alhilesh Yadav cabinet has quit his In-charge post owing moral responsibility to the tragedy. He said though, the accident happens out of his specified range, he would like to take moral responsibility of it and quits his post.
