PUNE: On Saturday, expressway authorities and Highway Safety Patrol decided to ban the heavy vehicles movement for few hours on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway during the weekends, Mondays and public holidays. The decision has been made so as to check the traffic jams on the highway, especially in the ghat section of Khandala. However, vehicles that transport perishable commodities have been exempted from the ban.

Amol Tambe, the Superintendent of police said that, the HSP officers would stop heavy or loaded vehicles that are heading towards Pune at the Khalapur toll post and a separate lane had been created for them for Fridays and Saturdays.
