Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s recent statement comes as a shocker to many states. He suggested that all the state governments do not expect too much from the Central government, instead plan to generate funds on their own, as the Centre also has several commitments to be fulfilled. His suggestion is very much disappointing to AP and Telangana state governments, especially to AP state government that has pinned all its hopes on the Centre.

The AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has been making rounds to New Delhi to get funds from the Centre for various projects and development activities that have been promised to the state in the AP Reorganization Bill-2014. Central government is also positively responding to his pleas, but nothing was granted during last six months. Even it is prolonging to accord special status to the state. If reports are to be believed, AP state is unlikely to get special status. CM Chandrababu Naidu is expecting huge funds from the Centre for construction of state capital city and for other development activities.

If, Centre fails to extend its help to the state they will be badly affected. Then it would become an acid test to CM Chandrababu Naidu implementing all his development plans without Centre’s assistance. However, central government can’t simply escape from the promises made by the previous government to the state in the AP Reorganization Bill-2014. So, CM Chandrababu may put efforts to find alternative sources to generate the funds, while pressurizing the central government. He seems to be prepared to face any kind of challenges and also start efforts to generate funds. He seeks the Japan government’s help to build the capital city and got its assurance.
