Who will be the next CS?
As the term of Minnie Mathew is coming to an end, the state government is busy with searching the successor for the lady. As per the information received so far, the government may show its inclination towards either I.V.Subba Rao or I.Y.R.Krishna Rao, both of whom belongs to 1979 batch. Subba Rao is presently serving in London with UNESCO and the latter is the Special Chief Secretary of the marketing department in Hyderabad.
However, the state government may not consider the name of M Samuel (1978 batch), the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration which post is considered as the next to Chief Secretary, as the CBI is investigating on him. So, the government may not choose him as there are no past instances of appointing such persons in the coveted CS post.
Another senior IAS officer M Chaya Ratan (1977 batch) is also retiring soon.
Both Indrajit Pal and J Sathyanarayana, both belonging to 1977 batch, are serving in Delhi in various ministries as secretaries to Government of India and the government may not opt to call them back. Of them, Satyanarayana is not interested to return to the state service.
Rajen Habib Khwaja (1976 batch), the seniormost of all the present contenders for the post, is also a secretary at centre and some leaders are trying hard to bring him to Hyderabad to head the state administration. It is reported that he has the blessings of Congress Incharge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Gulam Nabi Azad.
Considering the various points, the chances for either Subba Rao or Krishna Rao are appearing brighter to head the bureaucracy in Andhra Pradesh.
