Congress party has started its working on the kind of alliances that it can make for the 2014 elections to the Lok Sabha. As the elections will be held in a period of less than 17 months, it is in search of new partners.
To find out the same, the party has already deputed the senior leaders of the party like A.N.Antony and others, who run the coalition governments in their respective states successfully, to the duty. Antony is heading the sub committee of the party for studying the aspect of ‘political challenges before the party’. Its members include the Home Minister Susheel Kumar Shinde, Finance Minister Chidambaram, Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit, Information and Broadcasting Minister Maneesh Tiwari, former Chief Minister of Nagaland S.C.Jameer and another leader Ashok Tanwar.
About five committees were formed to set out the agenda for the brainstorming session of the party to be held in Jaipur from 18-20 of next month. Some of the purposes of the session are setting out the agendas of the party on political and economic aspects. The session will be a key one for the party.
The AICC President Sonia Gandhi has actually planned such a session in 2010 itself. But, it was not possible for the party to hold it since then due to the consecutive hurdles for the party. The session is the first one after 2003 and the third one after Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of the party in 1998.
