Mukesh Ambani offers prayers at Tirupati after Jio Launch

After taking the telecom industry by storm with the launch of Reliance Jio network, Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani on Friday offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara. Mukesh, who flew down to the temple town of Tirupati from Mumbai late Thursday night, was accompanied by his son Anant and daughter Isha. To felicitate the VVIP visit, the authorities kept the Alipiri toll gate in Tirumala open at 1 am on Friday while gate remains closed between 12 midnight to 3 am usually. Mukesh and Anant participated in Abhisheka Seva, which is performed only on Fridays. The Seva began around 4.30 am and continued for an hour. Union law minister Sadananda Gowda and his wife were also present at the Abhisheka Seva.   After the VIP break darshan, temple authorities offered him prasad and a silk robe. Mukesh Ambani who launched the service at RIL's 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai, for the first time made a detailed presentation on Jio, RIL's telecom venture, including its data tariff plans and announcement of free voice call services across India.  Ambani promised free voice calling within India forever on Reliance Jio. Along with that, Jio offers data at Rs 50 per GB (base rate) against Rs 250 per GB charged on average by other operators. Even roaming is absolutely free. Reliance Jio's aggressive plans for its mobile services launch left a $2-billion (over Rs 13,000-crore) hole in the pockets of shareholders of its listed peers  Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications.

Varun Gandhi Praises Nehru's Sacrifice for India

In a huge embarrassment to the party, BJP MP, Varun Gandhi went all out in praising one of the Congress stalwarts Jawaharlal Nehru while he recalled the sacrifice he had made for the country. Addressing participants at a youth conclave, he said, "People think that Nehru became the first prime minister and lived a lavish life like a king, full of comfort and luxury. What they do not know is Nehru spent 15 and half years in jail to achieve that''. "If today someone puts me in jail and says that after 15 years we will make you the PM, I will say, 'pardon me; it is too taxing'.'' He said as youth, it was their responsibility to understand that Nehru sacrificed his life, family and "bore wounds on his body'' to free India. He added that this freedom should not be wasted.   Gandhi also said that people did not know the thoughts of today's top leaders on key issues as winning elections had become the sole criterion to become a big politician. "A farmer in Kerala, KT Thomas, could not repay Rs 3,000 loan and ultimately committed suicide. On the other hand, Vijay Mallya who secured bank loans of Rs 4,500 crore fled India and it seems like he will never come back," he said. Varun said 82% of successful young politicians have political background. "My name is Feroze Varun Gandhi, if my name would have been Feroze Varun Ahmed, or Tiwari, or Singh, or Prasad, I would have also been an audience like you,'' he added. He also spoke about the fat pay cheques being received by the ministers. "The average assets of MP's today is Rs 15 crore, and I am one of them. When I became an MP, I was ashamed because half of the MPs were standing in Parliament asking for their salary hike. Out of them, only 2-4% are actually deserving. All other are industrialists who have their own SUVs. I gave a written note to Ms Meira stating that I don't care whether you increase the salary of MPs, but I will not accept the increased salary. Since 2009, whatever salary I have received, I have silently given it to the families of farmers in UP who committed suicide," Gandhi said.

Sidhu shocks AAP; Set to launch his own party

Putting an end to what seemed like a never ending speculation, Cricketer turned Politician Navjot Sindhu has floated a new front called "Aawaaz-e-Punjab." This news has sent shock waves across political spectrum as there was news of him joining the Aam Aadmi Party, as the party's Punjab Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections in the state. "Along with Pargat Singh and Bains brothers we have formed a front, this will be against those working against Punjab," said Navjot Kaur Sidhu.  The front formed by Navjot Singh Sidhu, Indian Hockey captain Pargat Singh and Bains brothers willl be called "Aawaaz-e-Punjab". The 'Aawaaz-e-Punjab' will be formally launched next week, reports said.   A week after quitting Rajya Sabha, Navjot Singh Sidhu had broken his silence and targeted the BJP for asking him to stay away from Punjab to serve 'personal interests' but continued to keep everyone guessing on his next move, including whether he will join AAP. A fortnight ago, Arvind Kejriwal sought to scotch 'rumours' on Navjot Singh Sidhu's possible induction in Aam Aadmi Party, saying the cricketer- turned-politician had not put any pre-condition and just needed 'time to think'. Amidst all of this, there was news that Congress was also trying to rope him into the party ahead of polls in Punjab. But now it seems like the Punjab polls are going to turn out to be interesting, as this move by Sidhu could possibly be a game changer.
