Raising curtain over the week long suspense, the Congress high command fanally appointed Botsa Satyanarayana as the APCC chief. He is currently the state's transport minister. Botsa is a member of the influential Kapu community to which filmstar Chiranjeevi, who merged his Praja Rajyam Party with Congress, also belongs. Another senior minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, also belonging to the same community, was also in the running for the post of PCC chief.
Mr Satyanarayana has never associated himself with other ministers and leaders who have been demanding a united AP and was not a part of any of the delegations that had met the Justice Srikrishna panel on the issue. In fact he had once asked what would be wrong in granting a Telangana state. His appointment as the new PCC chief has been hailed by several Telangana leaders. The Rajya Sabha member, Dr K. Kesava Rao, said that the appointment of Mr Satyanarayana, who is not against Telangana, was welcome and he hoped that a Telangana state would become a reality soon due to this development.
