Former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy is currently lodged in Chanchalguda jail facing CBI charges of irregularities in ther Obulapuram mines owned by him. Till now he and his brother-in-law Srinivasa Reddy were treated as commoners and were sharing a common cell with other prisoners. Though he petitioned the court twice earlier to grant him special category, but the court refused to do so both the times.
Janardhan Reddy petitioned again third time today, which the special CBI court at Nampally took into consideration. The court finally granted special category prisoners status for him and his brother-in-law. Now both of them will be shifted to special cell. From now onwards, they need not share the common food served to the prisoners. They can as well have non-veg food also along with some other amenities provided to the VIP prisoners.
