EAMCET-2011 examination date has been postponed from 8 May to 22 May to accommodate bypolls to be held for one Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in Kadapa District. The postponement will affect around 3.5 lakh students in the State. The postponement of this crucial exam will force students to alter their study schedules. Several students from AP will be preparing for other prominent competitive exams too and this will affect their preparation plans.
The Election Commission announced the polling date on Wednesday and though APSCHE could have requested the EC to change the date to avoid a clash with the exams, it took a unilateral decision on Thursday to postpone the exam by two weeks. The chief electoral officer Mr Bhanwar Lal had even assured Eamcet officials on Thursday that he would take up the issue of changing the date with the Election Commission of India, and sought a day’s time for the purpose. However, the Eamcet committee held an emergency meeting at the APSCHE office on Thursday evening and decided to postpone the examination.
However, the chairman of APSCHE, Prof. Jayaprakash Rao, claimed at a press meet that the decision to postpone the exam was made after the Election Commission refused to change the polling date. He explained that as per the orders of the AP State Human Rights Commission, to avoid students getting caught up in traffic jams and reaching late for the exam, Eamcet is held only on Sundays. Therefore, EAMCET-2011 has been postponed to Sunday 22 May.
