Indian 3 is back on track: Release date not announced yet

Oct 8, 2026 12:07PM

After years of uncertainty, Indian 3 is finally moving ahead. Lyca Productions has officially announced the return of Kamal Haasan’s Senapathy with a new post featuring the line, “Senapathy is back with zero tolerance. The resurgence begins in Indian 3. War Mode.” The production house also unveiled new posters, signalling that the long-delayed sequel is now back on track.

The announcement comes more than two years after Indian 2 arrived in theatres and turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in Indian cinema. The film faced severe criticism and trolling, with director Shankar coming under particular scrutiny for the execution. However, the Indian 3 trailer, which was attached to Indian 2, offered a far more promising glimpse of Senapathy’s next chapter and left audiences curious about what the third instalment could deliver.

The journey to this announcement has reportedly been far from smooth. Indian 3 has been in the edit suite for more than 3 years post Indian 2 release, with the production facing repeated delays and issues between the stakeholders from 2019 for both films. Reports previously suggested that Shankar had sought around Rs. 50 crore to complete the remaining portions of the film and prepare it for release. Lyca Productions was reportedly reluctant to approve the additional expenditure after the losses incurred by Indian 2 and the prolonged production period.

The latest announcement indicates that Lyca Productions, Shankar and Kamal Haasan have seemingly reached common ground to take the project forward. While the makers have not yet revealed a release date, the message is clear: Senapathy is returning, and Indian 3 is finally moving towards completion.
