Comrade Kalyan is a Dasara Treat for everyone - Sree Vishnu

Oct 8, 2026 1:57PM

Sree Vishnu’s upcoming film Comrade Kalyan is set to hit screens on October 9, and the team opened up about the film’s journey and the challenges faced ahead of its release. Directed by Janakiram Marella, the film is presented by Kona Venkat and produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati.

The film’s unusual backdrop became one of the major talking points during the interaction. While Comrade Kalyan deals with a serious subject involving Naxalism, the makers have chosen to present it as a comedy entertainer. Sree Vishnu said they deliberately maintained a comic tone instead of allowing the serious elements to dominate the narrative. “We decided not to distract the audience from the comical tone. Everything has been treated in a complete entertaining zone,” he explained.

The film also had to overcome a prolonged censorship process. Janakiram Marella revealed that the team spent nearly 45 days dealing with the censor authorities and the revising committee before securing the U/A certificate. He became emotional while recalling the period and thanked Sree Vishnu, Kona Venkat and producer Krishna Karnati for standing by him throughout the process. Kona Venkat, meanwhile, said the complete 2-hour-17-minute film was shown to distributors and OTT platforms before the business was finalised, with the stakeholders taking the film after watching it.

Sree Vishnu stressed that the film has been kept clean despite its unconventional setting. “There are no double meaning dialogues, jokes or remarks. This is a clean entertainer that kids, families and elderly will enjoy,” he said. He added that Comrade Kalyan was conceived as a festival film that could appeal across age groups. With Mahima Nambiar, Radhikaa Sarathkumar, Vennela Kishore, Sathya and Sudharshan in key roles, the film arrives as Sree Vishnu’s latest attempt to blend an unusual backdrop with his trademark comic approach.
