Brad Pitt and Angelina settlement dispute takes a turn

Oct 12, 2026 4:46PM

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s legal battle over their French winery, Château Miraval, continues years after their divorce settlement was finalised in 2024. The latest courtroom exchange has brought a fresh controversy into the dispute, with Pitt’s lawyer raising concerns about how female lawyers are treated during legal proceedings.

During a recent hearing at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Pitt’s lawyer, Julia B. Cherlow, sought additional financial documents from Jolie. Her request was opposed by Jolie’s lawyer, Paul D. Murphy, who remarked that he had never encountered a situation in which the opposing side kept asking for more. Cherlow responded that, as a female advocate, she frequently hears the phrase, “Never in my career have I ever seen this.” Murphy expressed disappointment over her response, but the exchange did not lead to any further action from the judge.

The legal dispute dates back to 2022, when Pitt sued Jolie after she sold her stake in Château Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, a company associated with the Stoli Group. Pitt alleged that the sale violated an agreement requiring both parties to obtain the other’s consent before selling their interests. Jolie has disputed the existence of such a binding agreement and maintained that she was entitled to sell her stake.

The former couple acquired the winery in 2008, and the business disagreement has continued despite the conclusion of their divorce proceedings. Pitt has repeatedly sought financial records from Jolie, while the actress has argued that some of the requested documents are private and irrelevant to the central contractual dispute. With both sides continuing to contest key issues, the Château Miraval case remains unresolved.
