Google Doodle honours Indian cartoonist

Its not new for Google to decorate its page with a doodle. But today it has made Indian artists proud with a doodle on renowned Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda. Today was the 90th birthday of this cartoonist from Goa. Miranda has started to express his art by painting on his home walls. Since then there was no pause for his expression till 2011... the year in which he took his last breath. Miranda has started his career with `The Illustrated Weekly of India` and has contributed to many major news papers such as Times of India and Economic Times.

His illustrated book on the history of Goa co-authored with Manohar Mulgaonkar made him immortal in the field of illustration. Miranda is known to keenly observe the day to day of people, and his illustrations prove the point. He was conferred with the civilian awards Padma Shri as well as Padma Bhushan which is rare for a cartoonist. Miranda along with R.K. Laxman will be remembered as the few cartoonists who has gained pride and recognition for Indian cartoons across the world.
