It is worth revoking decision on cheap liquor

Generally, political parties speak differently when they were sitting in the opposition benches and after coming into power. TRS party is also not exceptional to this thumb rule. There was a time when TRS used to criticize the then Congress government lead by Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy for its liquor policy. But, now the same TRS party is introducing cheap liquor in the state, whereas it promised to work for ‘Bangari Telanagana.” Obviously, introducing cheap liquor is not part or priority of its Bangari Telangana program, but found a silly excuse to introduce cheap liquor.

Chief Minister KCR is arguing that his government is introducing cheap liquor merely to eliminate ‘Gudumba’ in the state, which is being made with dangerous chemicals that is taking lives of poor people. He said this decision was taken only after thorough discussion in the cabinet meeting and taking feedback from the people of the state. Hence, he justifies introducing cheap liquor in the state. But, if he wants to eliminate Gudumba from the state, he shouldn’t recommend cheap liquor to the people, instead being a Chief Minister of the state, he can use his entire force to eliminate Gudumba from the state. If he thinks that his government can’t eliminate Gudumba from the state, then he can’t eliminate it even after introducing cheap liquor. Instead, cheap liquor comes as another attraction and makes the poor people get addicted to it also.

No doubt, cheap liquor will definitely spreads to remote villages also like wild fire and start ruining the families of poor people. Chief Minister KCR and his ministers, who are using their extraordinary talkative skills to justify their decision, are failing to foresee the irreversible damage that may occur to the social structure of the state. Perhaps, they are eyeing the huge revenue that may generate from selling the cheap liquor. But, the government has to spend double or thrice that amount on medical, health and many other sectors, once the cheap liquor start showing its adverse affects on the society.

Chief Minister KCR has taken many controversial decisions until now and this would be another one in the list. He may be hanging to his decision fearing it may be admitting of another wrong decision taken by his government. It also gives a chance to opposition parties to claim that they have forced Chief Minister KCR to revoke his decision with their agitations. But, if he revokes his decision, it is worth and would be a good decision for the sake of his people. After all, he also wants to see a prosperous Telangana state and not an addicted state.
