Stay on RKR Award of Sania Mirza issued

Responding to a petition filed by veteran Olympic player Girisha, Karnataka high court issues a stay order today on Rajeev Khel Ratna Award decalred for Tennis player Saia Mirza by Government of India few days ago. He argues that he won Silver Medal in high jump event in the 2012 Olympic Games and was honored with Padmashri Award by Government of India in 2013. But Sania Mirza has not won any single title during 2011-2014. Then, how she is deserved to be honored with such prestigious award like Rajeev Khel Ratna, he asks.

Girisha argues that he deserved to be honored with it and not Sania Mirza. So, he appealed the high court to issue a stay order on her award and justify his demand for the same. Karnataka high court issues stay order on her award and served notice to government of India to file counter in this case.
