Veteran actress and MP from Mathura-Hema Malini has made controversial remarks on widows and their nativity. During her recent visit to her constituency, speaking to media she said “There are around 40, 000 widows in this place and still many from Bihar and West Bengal are arriving to spend their last days in this holy place. There is no room left here for them. Instead of taking pains to come here, they could settle somewhere in their states, where hundreds of temples are situated. Both those state governments have to look after the widows coming from their states. I will talk to concerned officials to address this problem.”
Obviously, her comments make fume the women organizations and women politicians on her. They strongly condemned her remarks and demand her for apology for derogatory remarks. Former Minister DK Aruna and YSR Congress party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma have condemned her remarks with strong words.
DK Aruna said “It is quite unfortunate to hear such words from a respectable woman MP, who hails from Tamilnadu but now settled in Mumbai. She should know that any citizen of the country has all rights to choose where to live in the country. She can’t order the people not to come to her constituency. She can’t make rules on regional lines.”
Hema Malini should realize the fact that she too moved into highly crowded Mumbai city and settled there. If the same thumb rule is applied to her also, then she has to return to her native state Tamilnadu. Being a women and respectable MP, she should see their case in women’s point of view rather than regional lines.
