Earlier in the day the Union Government has approved the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, where they have approved a 23.6 per cent increase in government employees' overall pay - basic pay plus allowances as recommended. But this did not seem to please the employees, according to reports they have announced they will be going on a strike starting July 11, protesting against the salary hike approved by the Cabinet.
A total of 98 lakh employees of which 47 lakh central government employees and 52 lakh pensioners were to benefit from the decision to hike the salaries. Nearly 32 lakh central government employees will be going on the proposed strike said reports. An official statement is awaited from the employees.
