Mumbai Shakti Mills gang rape accused get life Imprisonment

 

 

 

In what could be termed as a speedy trial and justice, the Mumbai sessions court on Friday awarded life sentence to the four convicts for the gang rape of a telephone operator at the Shakti Mills compound in 2013. The accused will face imprisonment till the end of their natural lives. Meanwhile, the public prosecutor has sought death penalty for three of the accused who are also convicted for the gang rape of a photojournalist at the same location.


The four convicts who were awarded the life term are Vijay Jadhav, Qasim Sheikh alias Bengali, Salim Ansari and Mohammad Ashfak Shaikh.The fifth accused, a minor in the telephone operator gang rape case, is being tried by the Juvenile Justice Board. After the case of the photojournalist in August 2013 was registered another victim a telephone operator had a filed a complaint that she was also raped at the same place in July 2013 by the three of the men who were also involved in the case of the photojournalist.

The quantum of  sentence in the photojournalist’s case will be pronounced on March 24.
