  • India strengthens non-proliferation regime

    TOKYO: Japan recently said that, India’s presence in Nuclear Suppliers Group would help in promoting non-proliferation. The Director-General of press and public diplomacy in the ministry of Japan of foreign affairs, Yasuhisa Kawamura said that, they intend to continue working with India on the issue as they believe that India’s membership in NSG would help strengthen the non-proliferation regime and Japan would continue to discuss the issue with other member states. On the contrary China says that India’s presence in NSG weakens the international non-proliferation regime, but is itself accused for violating both NSG and NPT guidelines. Whereas Kawamura said that, he had a positive sense that they were making appropriate efforts. Japan is currently examining the pact that has been signed legally and after some clarifications would look to sign the final agreement. The agreement would then have to be passed by the Diet of Japan. 

    The global economy is at crucial juncture

    HANGZHOU: Xi Jinping, the president of China said at the opening of the two day G20 summit that, the global economy was being threatened by the rising protectionism and risks of high leverage were accumulating. The president said that, the global economy was at a crucial juncture hemmed in by sluggish demand, financial market volatility and feeble trade and investment. Growth drivers from the previous round of technological progress were gradually fading, while a new round of technological and industrial revolution had to gain momentum.  Vladimir Putin from Russia, Shinzo Abe from Japan, Theresa May from Britian, Angela Merkel from Germany, Francois Hollande from France, and Narendra Modi from India are attending the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China.

    IndiGo started providing new daily flights

    HYDERABAD: On Sunday IndiGo, the country’s largest and fastest growing carrier announced that, it would be introducing new daily flights from Hyderabad to Port Blair and Varanasi. The services would be started from 30th of September and the daily flight to port Blair would be via Chennai while it would be a daily non-stop service to Varanasi. Aditya Ghosh, the President of IndiGo said that, their new flights and additional services from Hyderabad was a testament of the growing demand. IndiGo was determined to provide the best travel experience to all those who wish to fly these destinations. They were looking at providing affordable fares on the new routes for 6E. It was their constant endeavor to provide more flexibility of choice for their customers as IndiGo continues to offer them on time, hassle free and always affordable flying experience. 

    Delhi is not safe for senior citizens

    NEW DELHI: National Crime Records Bureau released the latest date from the report “Crime in India” and the capital of India had been categorized as the most unsafe city for second consecutive time for senior citizens in the year 2015.  Senior citizens are more probable to become victims of the crime in the capital of the Nation than in the other parts of the country. The category had been followed by Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.  Taj Hassan, the special commissioner of crime department was asked about the increasing crime, to which he said that, they had been running a campaign since 2014 and as the major jump in the crime rate was seen in 2014 and 2014, they want every case to be registered and detected. They coordinate with senior citizens with the help of beat officers and advise them on necessary security and safety aspects.

    CBI court held BB Singal guilty

    NEW DELHI: Bhushan Steel said on Sunday that, the chairman of the company, BB Singal had been held guilty by the CBI court under Indian Electricity Act with regard to Bhushan Indusrial Company’s case. In a regulatory filing the company said that, the CBI court vide order dated September 3, 2016 held Mr. BB Singal, the chairman of the company guilty under Indian Electricity Act, 1910. On submitting the surety bond, Mr. BB Singal had been granted bail and sentence had been suspended for 60 days to enable him to file the appeal against the said order.

    Bihar’s CM must be saluted: Togadia

    PATNA: Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar had been hailed for enforcing the prohibition in the state by Praveen Togadia.  Mr. Togadia said that, he salutes the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for enforcing total prohibition in Bihar. This was a historic step and the prohibition should be imposed in the entire country. He added, “A ban on sale and consumption of alcohol will help alleviate poverty as money spent on alcohol will now be wither saved or used to buy essentials only. Also if the prohibition is enforced people can be protected from many diseases”. The government of Nitish Kumar enforced total prohibition on manufacture, marketing, sale or consumption of liquor in Bihar.

    All party delegations had lost credibility

    SRINAGAR: On Sunday, Omar Abdullah, the ex-Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir met the all-party delegation which is being led by Rajnath Singh, the union home minister. Omar said that, these delegations had lost credibility and there had hardly been any follow-up in the past after similar visits. He also said that, the MPs who had come there that time, to revive faith in the process, face an enormous task.  There was a time when his father had conveyed to grant internal autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir and had warned New Delhi that if they continue to deny it, time would come when it would also not be acceptable to people of the state. He thinks that we would head for that time. 

    36 were killed in an accident

    Afghanistan, Kabul: An Afghan official said that, at least 36 passengers including women and children had been killed when their bus bumped into a fuel tanker in southern Zabul province.The accident took place on the highway, which links the capital city of Afghanistan and the southern city of Kandahar, in Shar- E Safa district. The spokesperson of the provincial governor is Zabul, Gul Islam Seyal said that, “More than 25 are seriously wounded and some of them are in critical conditions”. He blamed that the drivers of the bus as well as the fuel tanker were reckless. He also said that, the authorities would transfer the critical patients to the neighboring Kandahar province. 

    We are coming with a solution: Sisodia

    NEW DELHI:  On Saturday, Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister said that, the government would take it up as a challenge to ensure that every government school student would be at least able to read their text books by 14th of November. Mr. Manish told the media that, the initiative was being done to strengthen the foundation of our education system in the government schools. It should start from the primary level. We cannot talk about quality education unless the students could read.  He added that, they were coming with a solution today. They did a study and analyzed what were the short comings-in attitude, ambience, and the approach. Teachers were working hard and it was not benefitting all the students. They decided to take it as a challenge that till November 14, they would bring every child to minimum reading level.  

    Gulf returnees’ crisis is being ignored?

    Pinyari Vijaya, the Chief Minister of Kerala condemned the Centre for neglecting the gulf returnees’ crisis, which affects the economy of the state and the remittances to India. Mr. Vijayan said that, the crisis of gulf returnees would hit Kerala the most. The government had sent repeated reminder to the Centre for a rehabilitation package to help the retrenched workers and the Centre’s response left much to be desired. He added that, his government would take appropriate measures to address the situation. Mr. Vijayan also announced a few initiatives on the occasion of Onam. One of the initiatives include a mega housing project that would benefit over two lakh homeless and landless families. 

    DK invited CM to a debate

    HYDERABAD: On Saturday, K Chandrasekhar Rao was invited for an open debate by the Congress party. The debate would be on proposed change of districts as well as the strategic adopted on the issue by the government. DK Gadwal Aruna has begun a two day hunger strike along with the ex- state Congress president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and A Sampath Kumar who is the MLA of Alampur at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park. She accused that, the government of TRS is reorganizing districts to derive political benefits without taking a methodical approach in the exercise. She said, “None of the political parties are fully on-board with the government on the proposal. I invite the Chief Minister for a debate and will wait for his response till Sunday evening. If the CM is unable to come to the Dharna Chowk, then he can send K.T Rama Rao or T. Harish Rao on his behalf”.  

    RBI’s priorities change after Raghuram?

    SINGAPORE: Deutsche bank said in a special report which has been released this week that, after the outgoing Governor Raghuram Rajan, Reserve Bank of India would deal with a markedly different set of priorities.  It also said that, there was little basis to guess the path of monetary policy to be pursued by the RBI under Governor-elect Urjit Patel, but there was sufficient empirical evidence to underscore the desirable path. The bank in its analysis said that, the central bank should ensure sufficiently positive real rates of interest to maintain exchange rate stability, inflation, quality growth and a positive feedback between investment and savings at various economic parts.

    Rajnath Singh solves students’ problem

    Rajnath Singh, the Home minister solved a group of students’ problem from Jammu who are studying in Rajasthan. The students were facing problem in getting government scholarship benefits. Singh witnessed the condition of these students on a news channel, contacted the Education Minister of Rajasthan and attempted to find the resolution of their problem with regard to the special scholarship scheme.   A Home Ministry official said that, Singh had asked the concerned Minister to sort out the operational difficulty by Monday. He told the students to meet him on Tuesday in Delhi if their problem is not solved by 5th of September.

    Ola sacked 250 employees

    NEW DELHI: Ola earlier fired over 700 employees from its TaxiforSure operations and soon after few weeks it has now fired close to 250 employees from its workforce.  An Ola spokesperson said that, an annual attrition of 3-4 % was a natural churn that was witnessed in the current industry scenario. It includes performance driven exits, contract roles as well as a few surfacing from constant business realignment. These had been well thought through organizational decisions, keeping in mind the best interests of employees and the business efficiencies.  He also said that, at the same time, they continue to hire the best of talent across the country with 300 open positions currently to strengthen their 600 plus team in 102 cities, pan India.

    China and US sign the Paris agreement

    China and United states are the biggest GHG emitters. They together emit 38% and china alone emits 20% of global greenhouse gases. On Saturday, ahead of the G20 summit which is going to begin on Sunday in Hangzhou, the two countries signed an officially valid Paris agreement to cut down the emissions. The executive director of Greenpeace International, Jennifer Morgan said, “The world is finally having a global climate agreement with both US and china. It signals a new era in global efforts to address the climate changes. Both the countries now need to scale and speed up their efforts in charting a future that avoids the worst impacts of climate change”.  The agreement is a major step towards the process of passing legislation and it is going to make way for other countries to follow the suit. United States and China from 2016-2100 together would avoid 51% of cumulative global greenhouse gas emissions from the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions in the Paris climate agreement.

    Bihar officials disregarded CM’s guidelines

    People started getting displaced because of the recent floods and none of the guidelines that have been issued by the CM are being followed by the officials. A flood victim at Dumar relief camp said that, they had been provided nothing by the government. They were simply provided food and water in plastic plates and glasses. Even sarees had not been given to them. After Kosi floods 2008, Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar issued clear guidelines with regard to the flood management as well as the relief camps. The Chief Minister prepared standard procedures for providing relief to the victims. The guidelines, which are currently being disregarded by the officials, say that, the flood victims are to be provided food and water in steel plates and glasses respectively. A steel mug as well as a plastic cover must be given to the victims. Sarees and lungis must be provided to women and men respectively along with the towel. 

    Ex-Minister Sandeep was suspended

      NEW DELHI: Delhi Minister Sandeep Kumar has been suspended by the Aam Aadmi party from the primary membership of the party on Saturday. After receiving a CD that is objectionable, Arvind Kejiriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi decided to suspend Sandeep Kumar and announced his decision on Wednesday. He said that, the former cabinet colleague had betrayed the party and the citizens of Delhi. On the contrary, Kumar denied the allegations and claimed that the video has been fabricated on Thursday. He also said that, he came from a poor family and poor were always trapped. Every time they rise, there were conspiracies to crush them. He was being targeted because he had set up a statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar in his house.    The crime branch of Delhi initiated an investigation to verify the CD’s authentication.

    Explosion kills 12 and injures 71

      PHILIPPINES:  According to an official report, 14 were killed and 71 were injured because of the explosion that took place at Davao city market, Philippines. The country’s official news agency said that, President Rodrigo Duterte had put the nation under a ‘state of lawlessness’, saying he had not declared the martial law and had not suspended the writ of habeas corpus. Duterete said that, they must confront the ugly head of terrorism and they would take that as a police matter about terrorism, with regard to the explosion that happened around 10 PM at the Roxas night market on Friday.

    CBI raids ex-CM Hooda’s premises

      GURGAON: On Saturday the premises of Bhupiner Singh Hooda, the Ex-Chief Minister of Haryana, and his associates were raided by the central bureau of investigation in connection with the Gurgaon land acquisition case. A CBI official said that, the searches were being carried out at 20 places in Rohtak, Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Delhi. The premises of Mr. Hooda, his two Ex- personal secretaries and a serving Indian Administrative Service official were being searched by different teams. Some private companies were also under scanner.It has been alleged that, the builders in Manesar, Naurangpur and Lakhnoula acquired the land worth Rs.1600 crore for Rs.100 Crore in the Gurgaon district.
