  • Jayalalitha fine, will return home soon: AIADMK

"Amma (Jayalalithaa) has progressed very well under the daily monitoring of Apollo Hospital doctors and specialists and soon she will return home," AIADMK spokesperson C R Saraswathy told reporters in Chennai. Saraswathy said Jayalalithaa, who had dedicated her life to public service, was "taking rest" as per the doctor's advice. "Otherwise, she is completely well and will come home soon. God is by her side on her health," she said. The AIADMK chief was admitted to Chennai’s Apollo Hospital with high fever and dehydration on September 22 but news of her treatment has been tightly controlled with cryptic health bulletins adding colour to the rumours flying around. The latest bulletin on Jayalalithaa’s health was issued on October 10. In its earlier bulletins, all that the hospital said was Jayalalithaa was responding well to treatment and in the last bulletin it informed that the CM was being constantly monitored and was under observation. Even after 9 days, the Apollo Hospital and state government have maintained silence about the CM’s health.

Shock for Congress as top leader joins BJP

Former Congress state president of Uttar Pradesh and MLA Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. She joined the BJP in the presence of party president Amit Shah. Joshi reached the BJP office at Ashoka Road on Thursday afternoon and addressed a press conference in the presence of party president Amit Shah and other senior leaders. A prominent Brahmin face of the party, Joshi had served as Congress party UP president between 2007-2012. As reported earlier on Monday, Joshi was reportedly unhappy with “being sidelined” in the party. Besides that, her nonavailability to the media for the last few days has only added fuel to the fire. Joshi had led the party in the last assembly pollsin the state in which Congress came a poor fourth. State BJP leaders when contacted said a final call on this has to be taken by the party's central leadership. A top source in the Congress said, "We have no indication of her joining the BJP, but we will speak to her. She is a senior leader."

90% Apple chargers on Amazon are fake

It has come to light that 'genuine' Apple accessories like Lightning-to-USB cables and USB power adapters sold on Amazon and Groupon are 90 per cent fake. The situation, says Apple, is even worse where third-party sellers are concerned. While the ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ tag gives buyers confidence that purchased products will be delivered, it gives no assurance that the items are genuine. Indeed, the lawsuit alleges, the vast majority of them are not. Although the counterfeit devices have been removed from Amazon’s storefront, there are several worrying developments that have come to light following Apple’s investigation into the issue. First and foremost, the fake products haven’t been properly tested or certified, meaning they likely “lack the safety features necessary to protects users from shock and fire hazards.” Apple argues that its own reputation is damaged when consumers buy what they believe to be genuine products which then fail to perform as they should, or which prove to be dangerous.

A top lawyer of Delhi sent shocking waves in the legal fraternity as well as in the income tax department after he declared unaccounted income worth Rs 125 crore. Sources in the I-T department said their search threw up documents about several other properties of the lawyer, besides his investments allegedly in shell companies. The I-T searches on the lawyer’s premises came just within a week of the closure on September 30 of the government’s income disclosure scheme, a four-month window for declaring unaccounted money. The tax department is cracking down on consultants and lobbyists.

According to the 2014 National Climate Assessment, a report compiled by a team of more than 300 experts, temperatures have increased at the Earth's surface, in the atmosphere and in the oceans over recent decades, while snow and ice cover have decreased.
