A journalist has been barred from leaving Pakistan after his report on the alleged rift between the Government and the army. Cyril Almeida, tweeted about this development just past midnight today. Pakistan's government has imposed a travel ban on a leading journalist after he sparked an uproar by reporting that civilian officials had clashed with the military over its covert support for militants.
Cyril Almeida, an assistant editor at Dawn, the country's oldest and most prestigious English daily, announced early Tuesday he had been placed on the "Exit Control List". "The participants were unanimous that the published story was clearly violative of universally acknowledged principles of reporting on national security issues and has risked the vital state interests through inclusion of inaccurate and misleading contents which had no relevance to actual discussion and facts," said an official statement.
