Governor has special powers: Centre

Political parties of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states have expressed entirely different views on Sec: 8 of the AP Reorganization Bill-2014 that give additional powers to Governor Narasimhan to take control of Law and Order in the common capital Hyderabad. But, later Governor appears to be shelved that proposal. So, the ongoing hot debate on it was also abruptly stopped.
But, Union Minister of State Haribhai Parthibhai Choudari’s reply to a question asked by TDP MP Galla Jayadev in Lok Sabha has once again triggered some tension among the Telangana MPs. Galla Jayadev asked whether the Governor can avail special powers under Sec: 8 and Minister Haribhai said ‘yes.’
Haribhai said “Governor can avail his special powers under Sec: 8 to ensure safety, security and liberty of the people living in the common capital Hyderabad. He can take Law and Order control into his hands under this section depending on the situation. It is the central government’s responsibility to implement AP Reorganization Bill-2014. There are certain clauses that need to be amended. Home Ministry is exercising for it.” TDP’s intention in asking this question in the Lok Sabha may be is to make the ruling TRS government realize about Sec: 8 existence in the Bill, which is strongly opposing it.
