SC stayed death sentence of 4 Veerappan followers

The four followers of Veerappan, whose mercy petition has been rejected by the President Pranab Mukharji and were supposed to be hanged on Sunday morning had a temporary relief, as the Supreme Court has stayed their sentence in the last minute. The Belgaum Jail officials in Karnataka state, who were all set to execute the death punishment on Sunday morning, even gave them food of their choice fulfilling their last choice, a practice followed before executing the punishment. However, to their relief Supreme Court has stayed their sentence till further orders. It will take up their stay appeal petition on Tuesday. Earlier, when the lawyers of the convicted have approached the court, it refuses to accept their petition stating it has no confirmation about executing the orders. However, when it was officially confirmed by the jail officials, then the court has stayed their punishment. There was a highly emotional situation prevails in the jail as the suspense continues till today morning, while the four convicted hardly able to speak anything.
