After us our forerunners are the children. They are the ones who take up our responsibilities. As, dutiful parents it’s our minimum courtesy to give them a healthy lifestyle. Once the kids get used to the crunchy sweet or salty foods it’s very hard to unhook this habit. During this uphill task we need to keep in mind some simple yet very important tips

Never ever Ban a food, if the same food is available outside there is ever possibility that they might overeat it, as it is not available at home. Best way out is to gradually get rid of the food

Set up a Regular schedule which might include 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks. Such a schedule will lead to more regular hunger and appetite

Avoid buying unhealthy treats in economy bulk sized packages; instead get the smallest possible packages

Eat as a family as often as possible and should make sure to set a good example for our children to copy us

We should allow kids to follow their appetites and let them decide when they are full. Never request or demand them for another bite, by doing so we might become the main reason for their overeating

Never add the additional fat in the meals for kids after 2years.Cause the fat deposited at this tender age continues to persist through out the adulthood too!

We must make it a point to offer lots of veggies and fruits, kids of age 8 years must have around 5 servings of veggies and fruits. Best effort would be, to encourage them to prepare the food themselves under our guidance

Limiting the sweet drinks like canned juice, sports drink and soda. Instead asking them to drink water when thirsty

Our picky eaters may refuse certain foods, Pediatrician say it takes time for children to like a new food’s taste and texture. Make sure we have given enough tries before we give up!!

Parents are the first teachers!!

So we must assure them of good eating habits!
