Abhishek Bachchan has opened up about his long-standing bond with Shah Rukh Khan, revealing just how much the superstar has supported him through his acting journey. Ahead of their reunion in King, Bachchan described Khan as an “elder brother” and said his involvement in his career has gone well beyond ordinary professional support.
Speaking to BBC Asian Network, Abhishek recalled knowing Shah Rukh from much before his own acting debut. He remembered spending Sundays playing cricket at Aditya Chopra’s residence with Uday Chopra, Hrithik Roshan and Sikandar Kher, with Shah Rukh also joining them on occasions. Over the years, their relationship developed into one that Abhishek considers deeply personal.
“He’s been so, so supportive of me and my craft and my career, and has literally taken, like, personal responsibility several times, including now in King as well,” Abhishek said. He also described Shah Rukh as someone who has “always been like an elder brother” to him.
Abhishek also recalled an early piece of advice from Shah Rukh that continues to influence the way he approaches his work. When he once asked Khan which film was his favourite, the superstar replied that it was the film he was currently making. The reasoning stayed with Abhishek — if an actor is not invested in the film he is currently doing, there is little point in doing it.

Abhishek said he has adopted that philosophy himself. “The one I’m doing right now has to be my favorite,” he said, adding that he prefers to leave the past behind and concentrate on the work in front of him. For him, that film is currently King, where he reunites with Shah Rukh Khan after their previous collaborations in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Happy New Year.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King stars Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, with Abhishek Bachchan playing the antagonist. The film is scheduled for a December 24, 2026 theatrical release.
