HC issues stay on land acquisition for two weeks

Responding to a petition filed by lawyer Jandyala Ravi Shankar the High Court has issued a stay order for two weeks on G.O. No: 166 issued by the Andhra Pradesh government few days ago. Ravi Shankar, in his petition complained that the G.O. is ignoring two important factors that safeguard the rights of the farmers. 1. Social assessment 2. Multi crops growing in the lands.

However, Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana speaking to the media said that the state government itself has asked the court two weeks’ time to file counter in this case and the court has agreed for it. He said the government has already told the court that it will proceed for land acquisition using the amended Land Acquisition Act only after two weeks, if the farmers do not agree for land acquisition under land pooling system. But, one thing is clear that the government has to stop its land acquisition process for two weeks from now.
