AP High Court Extends Jagan CBI Custody by 2 Days

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh on Friday extended CBI custody of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case. The CBI had sought the court for extension of Jagan custody on the plea that he didn't cooperate with the investigation during the five days custody period that ended yesterday. The court took the agency's plea into consideration and granted 2 day custody - on 9, 10 June. The court stipulated that Jagan is to be questioned from 10.30 AM to 5 PM in the presence of two advocates. The court also permitted the CBI to give the three chargesheets filed in the case so far to Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Jagan to be Quizzed Through Video Conference

Five days CBI custody of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has eneded yesterday and he is to be produced in CBI court today. But owing to security reasons, it has been decided that the CBI will quiz him through video conference. Jagan too has agreed for the video conference, inform the sources. However, police have made elaborate security arrangements at Nampally courts as a precautionary measure in case Jagan changes his mind at the last moment and opts to attend the court. The CBI has also sought the high court yesterday for further three days custody of Jagan. The high court will hear the plea in a short while from now.

CBI Summons India Cements MD Srinivasan in Jagan Case

The CBI investigating the Jagan illegal assets case has summoned BCCI chief and India Cements managing director N Srinivasan to appear before it next week. CBI is probing the alleged investments made by Srinivasan's company India Cements in the companies promoted by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the tenure of his father YS Rajshekhara Reddy as chief minister. The CBI has also asked officials of some other cement companies to appear for questioning, they said. Sources said the cement companies could be asked about water and limestone allocations made during the tenure of Rajashekhara Reddy as chief minister. The CBI, in its three charge sheets filed against Jagan and others, has alleged that he and his father had hatched a conspiracy to defraud the government with Jagan influencing Rajasekhara Reddy in doling out certain favours to various investors, who made investments in Jagan's businesses. Jagan is currently in judicial custody till June 11 and has been questioned by the CBI.

Jagan Case: CBI Court Adjourns Hearing ED Plea

The special CBI court at Nampally on Thursday adjourned hearing on a petition of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), seeking permission to question the jailed Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The ED sought permission of the court to examine Jagan, who is accused in three high profile cases including a case relating to amassing of illegal wealth. The special CBI court adjourned the hearing on the ED petition to June 14. The court also adjourned the hearing on the petition of industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, who is also in jail in the same case. The ED sought permission to question the accused in two other cases - illegal mining by Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) and Emaar Properties case. IAS officers B.P. Acharya and Y. Srilakshmi and industrialist Koneru Prasad have also filed objections to the ED's petition. Meanwhile, the court also directed CBI to provide copies of second and third chargesheets of Jagan case to ED. It also agreed to provide a copy of supplementary chargesheet in Emaar case to ED. The orders came after CBI conveyed to the court that it has no objection to the copies being given to ED. It was not clear if the ED would file a separate petition to take custody of Jagan for questioning. The central agency is likely to question Jagan for alleged violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The ED has already taken copies of two chargesheets filed in the OMC case and one each in Emaar and Jagan cases.

Jagan Case: CBI Grilling Minister Ponnala

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday appeared before the CBI in connection with a case pertaining to alleged illegal assets involving Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy. The CBI, which had summoned the minister, is examining him at their Kothi office over Government Orders (GOs), issued during 2004-09 by the Irrigation department, when he was the Major Irrigation minister in the cabinet of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, on supply of water from rivers Krishna and Kagina to some cement firms, which in turn allegedly made investments in Jagan-owned businesses. Ponnala is among the six Andhra Pradesh ministers who were issued notices by the Supreme Court in March, seeking their stand on the charge about their alleged role in the case against Jagan. CBI has so far examined three ministers in this regard and now Ponnala is the fourth minister. Earlier, ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao and home minister Sabita Indra Reddy had been questioned by the CBI, while another minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana has been arrested and is in Chanchalguda jail. Meanwhile, the CBI is continuing interrogation of Jagan for the fifth day at their Kothi office after taking his custody from the Chanchalguda Jail where he is under judicial remand till June 11. His five-day CBI custody period will expire today.

Jagan's CBI Custody Ends Today

YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy will be produced before Andhra Pradesh High Court as his CBI custody in the disproportionate assets case ends on Thursday. The court is also expected to hear his petition seeking permission to use print and electronic media from jail to campaign for the upcoming bypolls.   Relating to his illegal assets case, the custody extension of state’s Excise Minister M Venkataramana will also come up for hearing, while state IT minister Ponnala Laxmaiah is due to appear before the CBI for questioning today. The Kadapa MP, who was arrested by the agency on May 27 in the disproportionate assets case, is under judicial remand till June 11 and lodged at Chanchalguda jail. The AP High Court had last week given Jagan's custody to CBI for five days till June 7.

Jagan Illegal assets Case: Day 4 Questioning Starts

Day 4 questioning of arrested Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy by the CBI probing his illegal assets case has started on Wednesday. The CBI took Jagan Mohan Reddy into its custody from Chanchalguda jail, where he is currently lodged and brought him to their Kothi office. As part of the 5 day custody of Jagan for questioning, the CBI brought him to their Kothi office today at 10.30 AM. His close aide and vice chairman of Jagati Publications, Vijaya Sai Reddy and another associate Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy also attended the CBI questioning for the consecutive second day today. Jagan's five-day CBI custody ends tomorrow and he is expected to be produced in the CBI court day after tomorrow.

CBI Questions Jagan, Two Others on Third Day

The CBI is grilling the jailed Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday for the third consecutive day in his disproportionate assets case. Two of his aides were also summoned for questioning today. CBI officials took custody of Jagan from the Chanchalguda Central Jail and took him to the agency's office at Koti. Congress legislator from Kakinada D. Chandrasekhar Reddy and Sakshi TV director S. Ramakrishna Reddy also reached the CBI office in response to the notices served by the CBI. Chandrasekhar Reddy has reportedly worked as director in one of the companies owned by Jagan. He had recently called on Jagan's mother Y.S. Vijayamma to express his solidarity. The CBI may question him and Ramakrishna Reddy in the presence of Jagan about the investments received by Janani Infrastructure and Jagati Publications.

Tara Chowdary Still Haunting Congress MP Rayapati

For the past couple of months not much has been heard about Tara Chowdary, except that she has recently come out on bail from the jail. It is well known that the Telugu starlet, Tara Chowdary, was arrested by the Banjara Hills police on charges of prostitution and blackmail on 31 March. The latest news about Tara is that MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao filed a complaint with Lalapet police in Guntur that he has received two anonymous blackmail SMS. The messages said that the sender has in his possession the audio clip containing conversation between Tara chowdary and the MP. In his complaint, the MP, said that he received these messages from a cellphone No. 7306727667 and asked the police to investigate into the matter. He denied having any links with Tara Chowdary and also said that the voice in the said audio clip was not his. He also said that he is ready to face any sort of enquiry in this regard.  Tara's arrest two months ago had created a lot of sensation as the police seized number of audio and video CDs from her residence during investigation. It was reported that these CDs contained visuals and audio recordings related to the sleaze acts of several politicians, police officers and businessmen. It was also alleged that Tara used to blackmail her clients with the help of these CDs. It was rumoured at that time that Tara Chowdary has close links with Guntur Congress MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao and the later had used her to defame his political opponent, a minister from the same district. It was claimed that an audio clip allegedly containing conversation between Tara and the MP is in possession of the police. However, the MP at that time, had denied that he had any links with Tara nor he ever tried to use her for defaming any fellow politician.

CBI Begins Questioning Jaganmohan Reddy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Sunday began questioning jailed YSR Congress Party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the illegal assets case. The questioning began at the officer's mess in the office of director general of prisons, adjoining Chanchalguda Central Jail, where Jagan is lodged since May 28.     The Kadapa MP, emerged from the jail gate around 10.30 a.m. With his trademark smile, he greeted mediapersons with folded hands before the CBI officials led him into the waiting vehicle. Clad in white shirt, he was clean shaven and looked fresh. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had Saturday sent Jagan to five-day custody of the CBI from June 3 to June 7. As per the direction of the court, the questioning has to be done between 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the presence of two lawyers. The CBI was also directed not to use third-degree methods during the questioning.

HC Dismisses Jagan Petition: Orders 5 days CBI Custody

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Saturday granted 5 days custody of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to CBI. The court also dismissed Jagan Mohan Reddy's petition contending that his arrest by the CBI was improper. The court ruled that the CBI is empowered to arrest anyone if required in the course of investigation. It felt that CBI needs further custody of Jagan Mohan Reddy in the case and allowed CBI to to take him into custody till 7 June. The court directed the CBI to interrogate Jagan in the presence of two of his counsels. from 10.30 AM to 5 PM. The CBI has not yet confirmed where Jagan would be interrogated, at Dilkusha guesthouse or at their headquarters in Koti.

CBI Court Dismissed Jagan Bail Plea

The CBI special court on Friday dismissed YS jagan Mohan Reddy's second bail plea. The court had in the day heard arguements of both the parties - CBI and Jagan Mohan Reddy's counsels and delivered its judgement a short while ago. The court considered CBI's objection that Jagan is the key person in the case and has lot of information with him. Hence they require the custody of Jagan so as to elicit crucial information pertaining to the case. Meanwhile in High Court, hearing on Jagan's petition has been completed and the court reserved its judgement. The verdict may be out late tonight or may be deferred to some other date. Jagan had filed a petition in high court that his arrest by the CBI is improper and contended that by arrest he has been deprived from canvassing for his party - a recognised party, of which he is the president.

ED to Question Jagan First, Then Attach Assets

According to reliable sources, the Enforcement Department (ED) is first going to question Kadapa MP and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and then attach his assets. The ED ahs already drawn up a list of assets belonging to Jagan and looking for more, based on the findings of the CBI investigation. Sources said ED officials are likely to question Jagan, who is in judicial custody, before any attachment order is issued. Two ED officials from headquarters in Delhi have arrived in Hyderabad for recording Jagan’s statements. Jagan Mohan Reddy was arrested by the CBI on Sunday in a disproportionate assets case. Besides CBI and ED, he is also is facing probe from the Income Tax department. At least 15 of his companies have come under the scanner that includes Jagathi Publication, Sandur Power Co Ltd, Saraswati Power and a few real estate firms. The ED is looking into foreign investments made into some of these companies. Cases have been registered under both PMLA and Foreign Exchange Management Act. These companies had seen sudden jump in their share values. The probe had revealed that foreign investments made in some of these companies were later diverted to Jagan’s publication in alleged violation of FEMA guidelines. Jaganmohan Reddy first came on the radar of the investigating agency in 2010, soon after his father’s death in a copter crash a year before. The Income Tax department started investigating his wealth when he deposited an advance tax of Rs 84 crore for April-September of 2010-11. This was a huge jump compared to the previous two years when his tax outgo was a paltry Rs 2.92 lakh for 2008-09 and Rs 6.72 crore for 2009-10. The probe revealed that the payments resulted from the sale of a portion of his shares in the familyheld Bharathi Cement Company Ltd. The sale had earned him Rs 416 crore and he was still left with shares worth more than Rs 2,600 crore in the company at that point. Both the CBI and ED later started their probe by registering cases against Jagan and his close aides and companies that had invested in his firms.

Jagan Bail Plea Posted For Hearing on 31 May

Kadapa MP and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy filed bail plea in the Special CBI court this morning. Yesterday, the court had dismissed his petition seeking bail and remanded him to judicial custody till 11 June in his disproportionate assets case.   After spending a night in Chanchalguda jail, he filed a fresh petition in the court. The Kadapa MP, in his fresh petition filed today, has sought bail on the ground that he needed to campaign for the party in the ensuing byelections in 18 Assembly and 1 Lok Sabha constituency in the state. Terming his arrest as illegal, Jagan has alleged that he was arrested only to keep him away from the poll campaign. The court admitted the plea and posted it for hearing on Thursday, 31 May. It also directed the CBI to file counter by the next hearing. Jagan Mohan Reddy's lawyers also sought permission from the Andhra Pradesh high court to file a petition challenging his arrest. With the vacation bench granting permission, the quash petition would be filed Wednesday. The CBI also sought permission to file a petition seeking Jagan's custody for 14 days. The investigating agency has moved the high court after the CBI court on Monday dismissed its petition. The CBI will also file its petition in the high court seeking Jagan's custody.

YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has filed his bail petition in the CBI Special Court on Tuesday. In his petition, filed through his lawyer, Jagan had said that as the president of YSRCP he needed to campaign for the candidates in the ensuing by-elections and prayed for bail. Maintaining that his arrest was improper, he has asked the court to give him bail to enable him to campaign for his party candidates. Apart from bail plea, Jagan is also going to file a 'quash petition' in the High Court on Wednesday, contending that his arrest was improper and politically motivated. On the other hand, CBI also filing petition in the high court seeking Jagan's custody for further interrogation in the case. It is well known that the CBI court had yesterday rejected CBI plea seeking Jagan's custody. The High Court had permitted both Jagan and CBI to file their respective petitions tomorrow.

Jagan Day 1 in Chanchalguda Jail

It is natural for any first timer to be a bit nervous to step into jail, but it was not so with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was calm and cool, unperturbed, as if he was on his routine 'Odarpu Yatra'. On Monday, at the entrance of Chanchalguda Central Prison, a cheerful and smiling Jagan greeted the huge contingent of policemen and media persons who were present there. Inside the jail, he continued with the same demeanour, shaking hands with the jail staff and even enquiring about their well being. After completing the formalities, he was sent to the block where special category prisoners are lodged. Jagan was allotted Prisoner No. 6093 and he is the 10th special catogary prisoner lodged over there currently. According to prison sources, Jagan was allotted a special room. Usually special category prisoners have to share a room but an exception was made in the case of Jagan due to security reasons. The room measures 10 ft by 10 ft but it has an attached toilet. He has been provided with a cot and a mattress, which is as per the jail manual. A television set is also in the room that also has a chair and a table, but only Doordarshan channels can be accessed on it. Jagan reached few minutes late to the block and missed his dinner as the lock-up of prisoners starts at 5.30 PM after dinner. However in the morning, he can have khichdi or upma for breakfast, if he wants to give it a try. For that he has to wake up early in the morning and get ready by 6.30 am. But being a special category prisoner, Jagan does not really have to stick to any schedule. At a separate kitchen provided exclusively for special category prisoners, Jagan can get his choice of food cooked. "If he wants, he can get 115gm of nonvegetarian stuff every day. He can ask the jail staff to cook for him or get it cooked at the special kitchen," a prison official said. On Monday night, Jagan took along with him some fruits and biscuits into the prison. He also took with him two pairs of clothes which he carried in a bag, sources said. As per sources, it is learnt that immediately upon arrival to special catogary prisoners' area, Jagan met Nimmagadda Prasad and Brahmananda Reddy, who were also arrested in the his assets case, Koneru Prasad, Sunil Reddy and Vijayaraghavan arrested in the Emaar scam case, Srinivas Reddy, BP Acharya, and Rajagopal arrested in the Obulapuram mining scam and Surya newspaper owner Nookarapu Surya Prakash arrested in a cheating case.

Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy may seek bail today, on Tuesday 29 May 2012. Yesterday CBI special court has sent him to Chanchalguda jail on 14 days judicial remand in a disproportionate assets case. Earlier the CBI court had rejected his plea for anticipatory bail. Yesterday, Principal Judge of CBI court A Pullaiah also dismissed CBI's application seeking custody of Jagan for further interrogation. According to sources, it is likely that Jagan may again petition today for bail, in view of the upcoming byelections. Since he happens to be the president of a recognised party and bears the responsibility to canvass for his candidates, the court may consider to grant him bail, say the sources.

After completing the court formalities he will be shifted to chanchal guda jail. Though the CBI sought for further custody of jagan, The court refused to comply with and remanded him to judicial custody only. The court also dismissed jagan's bail plea.
