Justice HL Dattu of Supreme Court has dismissed a petition challenging the AP State government’s decision to build capital city at Thullur, filed by a former journalist Srimannarayana of Vijayawada few days ago. Justice Dattu announcing his verdict has stated that the court can’t intervene in this matter because it can direct the governments where to build the capital city. He said state government’s decision is final in this matter. It is quite common that some people may face problems and some others may get some benefits while constructing new cities. Rubbishing the petitioner’s arguments over damage to environment, Justice Dattu said, there is need of environment approvals during the planning stage. Governments are aware what measures have to be taken to protect environment while planning such massive constructions, said Justice Dattu.
The apex court’s verdict would give a great relief to the AP state government and a very disappointing to the farmers, who are planning to approach it over this land acquisition issue. The court’s verdict also seizes the chances of the opposition parties like Congress party and YSR Congress parties that are assuring the farmers to fight on behalf of in the courts.
