The Centre has passed the ordinance on the amended land acquisition bill today in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi. This is second time that Centre issuing an ordinance for the same purpose in a gap of six months. Center has passed the ordinance because the previous ordinance is going to expire on June 3rd.
Although, the NDA government managed to pass the amended land acquisition bill in the lower house, it fails to pass through upper house of the Parliament as it lacks enough strength to pass it in the house. Congress party that has enough strength in the upper house has stalled it with the support of other opposition parties. Hence, it is necessitated to pass ordinance today to keep the amendments made in the land acquisition bill effective till next 6 months.
