In view of the volatile situation prevailing in Kashmir, the Prime Minister finally spoke out on the issue. Speaking at a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Modi said his government is following erstwhile prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's policy on Kashmir. "My government believes in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's mantra of "insaniyat, jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat (humanity, democracy and Kashmiriyat). There are ways, including dialogue, to resolve issues in a democracy," he said. "Every Indian loves Kashmir. The freedom that every Indian has also belongs to every Kashmiri. We want the same bright future for every youth in Kashmir," PM Modi said. "Whatever Kashmiris want for betterment of their livelihood, the Centre will help. We want development for Jammu and Kashmir. Be it the J&K government under Mehboob Mufti or the central government, we are finding solution to all problems through development," the PM said. His statement comes a day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti urged the Centre to hold talks with Kashmiris, in the wake of violent protests that claimed several lives. The PM said Kashmir too has the freedom which is enjoyed in the rest of the country, and asserted that the Mehbooba Mufti-government and the Centre are working together to solve the state's difficulties.
