Devendra Jhajharia made India proud yet again with his Gold medal win at the Paralympics. Javelin thrower Devendra became the first Indian to clinch two gold medals at the Paralympics after he broke his own world record to clinch the top honours at the Rio Games. He first participated at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games at the age of 24. That appearance was no different, as he created a new world record with a throw of 62.15m to become India's first gold medalist.

But due to the F46 classification not being included in the subsequent 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Paralympics, Jhajharia didn't get the opportunity to break his own record earlier. Devendra took India's tally at this edition of the Paralympics to four medals-two golds, one silver and a bronze. The Rajasthan born athlete, with an amputated left hand, was awarded the Arjuna award in 2004 and the Padma Shri in 2012, becoming the first Paralympian to receive the honour.

"It is a proud moment for me. I am really happy that I have made my country proud. After winning the medal, I kissed the tri-colour. I promised everyone back home that I will repeat in Rio what I did in Athens. And, I did it." Devendra said. Jhajharia currently lives in Jaipur with his wife and daughter and is employed with the railways. He is also a member of the paralympics committee of Rajasthan.
