Politics for out-of-work stars

Looks like politics is becoming a haven for out-of-work and retired movie stars. With senior actor Krishnam Raju already joining BJP, we have one more entry-actor Rajasekhar and his wife Jeevitha, who has formally joined the BJP on Monday in the presence of BJP State leader Kishen Reddy.

Now this couple, who have made a full circle and touched the doors of all political parties except CPI, started with the TDP and then joined the Congress during the YSR regime. In between there was a fallout with actor Chiranjeevi and they were on backlash against him and his brother Pawan Kalyan which they even stated in an interview with a prominent news channel about his rude behavior and this has seen Pawan Kalyan imitating how Rajasekhar speaks with an accent in his block buster movie Gabbar Singh and ultimately the PRP merging with the Congress is past history. Post YSR’s death they were seen hobnobbing with Jagan’s YSRC Party.

who made use of the couple’s star status and if rumors are to be believed he was not happy with the extra attention that Rajasekhar got during an event and sidelined them. They were lost for some time and tried to get back to TDP but with no credible status and the lack of support from the inside TDP cadre they moved back. With both of them attending the prestigious Statue of Unity project one-day workshop by the BJP recently it was understood they were getting into the BJP mode.

Rajasekhar’s film career is known to be on the downfall with no hit to his credit and also known for his eccentricities he has put forward Jeevitha in the front end with her joining the party formally. Known to be an eloquent speaker and  whether she will be given a party ticket is yet to be seen except for adding to the glam-quotient to the rallies and public meetings conducted by the party.

Actress Roja is another meanderer, who first joined the TDP and was also the Woman Wing President of Telugu Mahila Party. She lost during the 2009 state elections, and in August 2009, she quit  the TDP and joined Congress Party. She also quit the Congress party showed her open support to Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy's political party YSR Congress Party during the political turmoil after he was sidelined by the Congress High Command. Excepting for adding to the glamour we have to wait and see if any of these actors are capable of contesting in the forthcoming elections.
