Banks to use indelible ink similar to voting

Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikant Das Tuesday announced that banks will be using indelible ink, similar to the one used in elections, to deter unscrupulous people from making multiple visits to cash counters in a day. Addressing the media, Das said, "Same people who are coming repeatedly are responsible for long queues and therefore, banks will put indelible ink on people withdrawing money. Indelible ink mark concept will start from today in major cities." A week ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes were being withdrawn from circulation to combat black money and corruption. They have been replaced with new high-denomination notes for Rs. 500 and Rs. 2,000.  He also said that religious places receiving donations in smaller denominations are being urged to immediately deposit the same in banks to increase currency supply.
