The fire in Uttarakhand forests is said to have affected almost 13 districts in the state. Hundreds of wild fires were being reported across the state. Though the wild fires are not new for Uttarakhand in pre monsoon season, there seems to be another reason behind the fire. The environmentalists and forest officials have been claiming timer and land mafia to be behind most of these incidents. The land mafia is certainly hoping to grab the forest land that is being cleared after a wild fire.
Even the Timber mafia is expecting to gain from the sales of charred trees that had to be sold by the forest department. The goons from the Timber and Land mafia were being alleged to form nexus with local villagers to cause a wild fire. the political turmoil in the state and lack of enough staff for forest department seems to be provoking the mafia to carry its intentions. So far 1900 hectares of forest is said to have burnt down by such forest fires. Environmentalists have been urging the centre to deploy army to prevent and hold the wild fires in the state.
