Is an attractive policy is enough to attract industries to TS?

Telangana CM KCR policy is very attractive and sops are very tempting. But, how can he expects the entrepreneurs to open shops in the state that is reeling under severe power crisis and no concrete measures have been taken to overcome this serious problem even in the near future.

Thousands of daily wage workers were thrown out of their jobs and hundreds of small and medium scale industries have lost very heavily due to power holidays implemented till recent past. However, Telangana government has not taken any concrete measures to overcome this problem, except blaming the previous governments.

It signed a MoU with Chhattisgarh state government for 1000mw power supply and asked the NTPC Chairman to set-up thermal power plants in the state as promised by the previous UPA government. No one knows when the power supply from Chhattisgarh sate will reach Telangana state, because there are not enough transmission lines for it. Centre’s nod and assistance is required to lay the transmission lines between two states. Then they are to be laid through Maoists’ strong hold areas between two states.

NTPC is ready to start construction works at Ramagundam for setting-up 1600mw power plant, but it also needs central government clearances. When, the Centre and state relations are not good enough, then how Telangana state can expect the Centre be liberal with it?

CM KCR is keen to set-up power plants under government sector and averse for private power generation plants. Even in his industrial policy there is no mention of encouraging private power generation plants, whereas AP government is signing agreements with private companies also. The latest agreement signed with Sumumito company of Japan for setting-up 4x1000 mw thermal power plants at Baruva in Srikakulam district is a fine example of Chandrababu Naidu’s foresight.

It may be good to generate power under government sector, but when it involves a lot of procedures and politics, then it is wise idea to allow private companies to generate power to meet the demand. So, Telangana government should put lots of efforts to improve the power supply situation, before expecting entrepreneurs jump for its industrial policy and sops. To improve power situation, first the mindset of the state government has to be changed positively. Then only its industrial policy can serve its purpose.

Telangana government should also think how to ensure entrepreneurs are glued to Telangana state, when AP state gets special status?
